Adam Driver

Adam Driver has been married to actress Joanne Tucker since June 2013. They met while studying in Juilliard's Drama Division and have two children, a son born in 2016 and a daughter born in 2023.

Driver founded Arts in the Armed Forces in 2008. The nonprofit brought free theater programming to active and retired service members, military support staff, veterans, and their families.

Driver was raised in Mishawaka, Indiana, after his parents divorced and he moved there with his mother. He attended Mishawaka High School, where he sang in the church choir and appeared in school productions of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Into the Woods, and Guys and Dolls. After graduating in 2001, he worked in sales and telemarketing and made an unsuccessful first application to Juilliard.

Following the September 11 attacks, Driver enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served for more than two years as an 81mm mortar man with 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, but was medically discharged after fracturing his sternum in a mountain-biking accident. He studied at the University of Indianapolis before successfully auditioning for Juilliard, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2009.

After graduating from Juilliard, Driver acted in Broadway and Off-Broadway productions and made small television appearances. His first film role was Walter Lyle in Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar (2011).

Driver gained widespread attention as Adam Sackler, the emotionally unstable boyfriend of Lena Dunham's character, in the HBO comedy-drama series Girls (2012-2017). The role brought him three consecutive Primetime Emmy nominations. During this period, he also appeared in Lincoln, Frances Ha, Inside Llewyn Davis, and While We're Young. For playing Jude in Hungry Hearts (2014), he won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the Venice International Film Festival.

Driver became an international star after being cast as Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015). He reprised the role in The Last Jedi (2017) and The Rise of Skywalker (2019), in which the character is also identified as Ben Solo.

His other prominent performances include the title role in Jim Jarmusch's Paterson (2016), Father Francisco Garupe in Martin Scorsese's Silence (2016), and Clyde Logan in Steven Soderbergh's Logan Lucky (2017). He earned an Academy Award nomination for playing Detective Philip "Flip" Zimmerman in Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman (2018), followed by a Best Actor nomination for his performance as Charlie Barber in Noah Baumbach's Marriage Story (2019). He later played roles in Annette, The Last Duel, House of Gucci, White Noise, Ferrari, and Megalopolis.

Driver made his Broadway debut as Frank Gardner in George Bernard Shaw's Mrs. Warren's Profession in 2010. He subsequently appeared on Broadway in Man and Boy and returned in 2019 as Pale in Lanford Wilson's Burn This, earning a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Play. His Off-Broadway work included Angels in America and Look Back in Anger, for which he won a Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play.

Driver has received four Primetime Emmy nominations, two Academy Award nominations, and a Tony Award nomination. He also received acclaim for playing the country music performer Strings McCrane in the 2024 Off-Broadway revival of Kenneth Lonergan's Hold On to Me Darling.
