Eli Tomac

Tomac was raised outside Cortez, Colorado, on his family's ranch. His father, John Tomac, is a former mountain bike racing champion, Mountain Bike Hall of Fame member, and Eli's manager. Eli has one brother, Greg, and began riding dirt bikes at a young age.

Tomac married in 2021, and he and his wife have three children, a girl and two boys. He continues to live and train in Cortez, where he trains at Mountain Range Fitness. Away from racing, he enjoys hunting, mountain biking, stand-up jet skis, and driving sports cars at the Las Vegas Speedway.

Tomac won eight Loretta Lynn's Amateur Championship titles between 2004 and 2009. In 2009, he won the 125cc FIM Junior World Championship in Taupō, New Zealand.

He turned professional in 2010 with Team Geico Honda and won the first motocross race he entered, becoming the first rider to win in his professional debut. He finished second in the 2011 250SX West Championship before winning the 250cc Supercross championship in 2012 with five main-event victories.

Tomac won the 2013 AMA Motocross 250cc title with seven overall victories and 12 consecutive podium finishes. He narrowly missed defending his 250SX title that year, finishing two points behind Ken Roczen.

Tomac moved into the 450cc division full-time in 2014. After recovering from injuries early in the season, he won his first 450cc outdoor event at the Spring Creek National. His first 450SX victory came in Phoenix in 2015, the same season in which he finished second in the overall championship behind Ryan Dungey.

After joining Monster Energy Kawasaki, Tomac won the 2017 AMA Motocross 450cc championship. He followed that with the 2018 and 2019 450cc outdoor titles, becoming only the fourth rider to win three consecutive championships in the series. He finished second in the 2017 and 2019 450SX championships.

Tomac won his first 450cc AMA Supercross championship in 2020. He captured his second in 2022, winning seven main events and becoming the first rider to win a Supercross title for Yamaha since 2009. In 2022, he also won the 450cc AMA Motocross championship, making him the first rider since Ryan Dungey in 2015 to win both titles in the same year.

His career has included team affiliations with Geico Honda, Monster Energy Kawasaki, Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha, and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing. He has recorded 57 AMA 450cc Supercross wins and 32 AMA 450cc Motocross wins.

Injuries have interrupted several stages of Tomac's career. A 2015 crash caused shoulder damage that required surgery and rehabilitation, while a ruptured Achilles tendon suffered while he was leading the 2023 Supercross main event in Denver kept him out of the 2023 motocross season and the SuperMotocross playoff rounds. He also missed the first nine rounds of the 2024 AMA Pro Motocross season with a thumb injury.

Tomac has represented the United States at the Motocross des Nations on multiple occasions. He was part of the winning American team in 2022 at Red Bud MX, where he won the first moto in the MXGP class. In 2024, he helped Team USA finish second overall at Matterley Basin in Great Britain.

Tomac won the 2016 Monster Energy Cup and finished runner-up in the 2019 event. He received the 2022 ESPY Award for Best Male Action Sports Athlete after winning both the AMA Supercross and AMA Motocross 450cc championships.
