Julia Fox

Julia Fox married Peter Artemiev in November 2018, and their divorce was finalized in July 2020. They have one son, Valentino Artemiev, who was born in 2021.

Fox dated rapper Kanye West from January to February 2022. The highly publicized relationship later became connected to the spread of the phrase “goblin mode” after a false headline about their breakup circulated online, which Fox confirmed was fabricated.

Fox has spoken about experiencing postpartum depression and having bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism, and borderline personality disorder. In July 2024, she publicly identified herself as a lesbian in a TikTok video, and in an August 2025 profile she described herself as pansexual.

Fox was born in Milan to Gracie Fox, an Italian mother, and Thomas Fox, an American father. She spent her first six years with her grandfather in Saronno, near Milan, while her mother finished college, then moved to Manhattan to live with her father. She continued traveling between Italy and New York during her adolescence.

As a teenager, Fox worked in a shoe store, an ice cream shop, and a pastry bakery. While attending City-As-School High School, she worked for six months as a dominatrix in New York's East Village. She also experienced periods of homelessness, arrests, heroin addiction, and a near-fatal overdose at 17.

Fox briefly studied media studies at the New School before leaving the program. Her memoir Down the Drain later drew on her difficult childhood, addiction, relationships, and recovery. She has said that the fentanyl overdose death of a close friend in 2019 influenced her decision to remain sober.

Before acting, Fox co-founded the luxury women's knitwear label Franziska Fox with Briana Andalore. She also established a modeling career, including an appearance in the final nude edition of Playboy in 2015.

Fox self-published the photography books Symptomatic of a Relationship Gone Sour: Heartburn/Nausea in 2015 and PTSD in 2016. In 2017, she hosted the exhibition “R.I.P. Julia Fox,” which featured silk canvases painted with her own blood.

Her later fashion work included campaigns for Tiffany & Co., Diesel, Coach New York, and Supreme. She also appeared in editorials and on covers for publications including Vogue Italia, Paper, Interview, Vogue Czechoslovakia, Elle Brasil, and New York Magazine.

Fox made her feature-film debut in the Safdie brothers' 2019 film Uncut Gems. She played Julia De Fiore, a showroom saleswoman and mistress of Howard Ratner, the jewelry dealer and gambling addict played by Adam Sandler. Fox had met Josh Safdie through a chance encounter at a café in SoHo and had known the Safdie brothers for almost a decade before the film was made.

Her performance brought nominations for Breakthrough Actor at the Gotham Awards, Most Promising Performer from the Chicago Film Critics Association, the Georgia Film Critics Association Breakthrough Award, and Best Supporting Actress from the Toronto Film Critics Association.

Fox later appeared as Scarlet in PVT Chat, Vanessa Capelli in Steven Soderbergh's No Sudden Move, and Julia in Puppet. Her subsequent screen work included Presence, The Trainer, Fantasmas, Him, Night Always Comes, and Idiotka.

Fox wrote and directed Fantasy Girls, a 2021 short film about teenage girls involved in sex work in Reno, Nevada. She also served as an executive producer on the independent film Something You Said Last Night and on Idiotka.

In October 2023, Simon & Schuster published Fox's memoir Down the Drain. The book was inspired in part by William S. Burroughs's Junkie, James Frey's A Million Little Pieces, and David Sedaris's Naked. It was later set to be developed as a television series by Joey Soloway.

Fox also hosts the Spotify podcast Forbidden Fruits with Niki Takesh. In 2024, she performed a song titled “Down the Drain” at Charli XCX's Boiler Room DJ set, and appeared in Charli XCX's “360” music video.
