Melody Hurd
Melody Hurd is an American actress and dancer known for playing Maddy Logelin in Fatherhood and Gracie Emory in Them. She has also appeared as Janelle Cross in the Prime Video series Cross and as Kadasha in Battle at Big Rock.
From child modeling to Battle at Big Rock
Hurd began her entertainment career as a child model, appearing in advertisements and at the JWJ Fashion Show in Atlanta. She later moved into acting after developing an interest in the performing arts at a young age.
Her acting debut came in the 2019 short film Battle at Big Rock, a Jurassic Park production directed by Colin Trevorrow. She played Kadasha and also appeared that year as Janice in Trick, which featured Omar Epps.
Fatherhood and Them
Hurd gained wider recognition in the Netflix film Fatherhood (2021), in which she played Maddy Logelin, the daughter of Kevin Hart's character.
She also played Gracie Emory in the Amazon horror anthology series Them. The series centers on a Black family moving into an all-white Los Angeles neighborhood, and the role established Hurd in a drama dealing with intense social and family themes.
Janelle Cross and award nominations
In the Prime Video series Cross, Hurd plays Janelle Cross. The role earned her a 2025 NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Youth and a nomination for the BET Young Stars Award.
Her television credits also include Young Tanya in The Ms. Pat Show, Leslie in Young Rock, and an appearance as herself on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
