Alex Hall

Hall was born in Fairbanks, Alaska, and moved with her family to Switzerland at the age of one. She grew up in Zurich, began skiing at three, and started freeskiing around age 10 after watching her father and older brother, Aldo, practice tricks in the mountains. Hall also built makeshift rails in her backyard from PVC pipes and wood, developing the creative approach that later became a hallmark of her skiing.

At 16, Hall returned to the United States to finish high school at the Winter Sports School in Park City, Utah. She then trained with the Park City Ski and Snowboard Club, having not belonged to a ski club or worked with a coach during her youth in Switzerland. Her parents, Elena Conti and Marcus Hall, are professors at the University of Zurich, while Aldo, a snowboarder, helped film her early skiing and secure initial sponsors. Hall speaks English, German, Swiss German, French, and Italian, and has pursued a bachelor's degree in Environmental and Sustainability Studies at the University of Utah through online classes.

Hall joined the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team at 17, first as a member of its Development Team before moving to the Pro Team a year later. She began competing at the FIS World Cup level during the season after her 2015 breakthrough at the Dumont Cup, where she finished seventh in slopestyle. At the 2016 Lillehammer Youth Olympics, she won silver in slopestyle and placed fourth in halfpipe.

Hall finished 16th in slopestyle at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics. Four years later in Beijing, she won the Olympic slopestyle title and finished eighth in big air. At the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, she won silver in slopestyle with a final score of 85.75. Her World Cup record includes 16 podium finishes, 10 victories, and two Crystal Globes, one in big air for the 2023-24 season and one in slopestyle for 2024-25. She also won slopestyle bronze at the 2021 and 2025 World Championships.

Hall has won 14 medals at the Winter X Games, including gold medals in slopestyle, big air, knuckle huck, and Real Ski. She became the first skier to win X Games gold in all four disciplines and the first male skier to win medals in three different disciplines at one X Games, taking big air gold and slopestyle and knuckle huck bronze at Aspen in 2022.

At the 2022 X Games, Hall landed the first 2160 in competition, a switch double cork with a Buick grab involving six full rotations. She also became the first athlete to complete a switch triple cork 1800 in 2016. Her Olympic gold-medal run featured a right double cork 1080 that transitioned into a 900, while the Buick grab, in which she grips the same ski with both hands, is one of her signature moves. Hall has been named Skier of the Year by Newschoolers and Toyota three times and was inducted into Forbes' 30 Under 30 sports list in 2023.

Alongside her competitive career, Hall helped found Magma Ski, a film brand focused on artistic and candid portrayals of life on the slopes. She established the project with fellow U.S. Ski Team member Hunter Hess and filmmaker Owen Dahlberg.

Magma's work has been presented through an international movie tour with screenings in the United States, New Zealand, and Austria. The project reflects Hall's interest in filmmaking and the creative culture surrounding freeskiing beyond formal competition.
