Bindi Irwin is an Australian actress and television host known for hosting Bindi the Jungle Girl and winning the twenty-first season of Dancing with the Stars. She is also associated with Australia Zoo, wildlife conservation, and the television series Crikey! It's the Irwins.

Personal life and health

Bindi Irwin has been married to American professional wakeboarder Chandler Powell since 25 March 2020. They met at Australia Zoo in November 2013, became engaged on Irwin's twenty-first birthday in 2019, and married in a private ceremony at the zoo. Their daughter, Grace Warrior Irwin Powell, was born on their first wedding anniversary in 2021.

In 2023, Irwin revealed that she had been formally diagnosed with endometriosis after experiencing severe pain, nausea, and fatigue for more than a decade. During laparoscopic surgery, gynaecologist Tamer Seckin removed 37 lesions and a cyst. In 2025, Seckin also removed her appendix, repaired a hernia, and removed 14 further endometriosis lesions.

Growing up at Australia Zoo

Irwin is the daughter of wildlife specialists Steve Irwin and Terri Irwin, and the younger sister of conservationist and television personality Robert Irwin. She grew up at Australia Zoo, the family wildlife park, and was homeschooled there for much of her education so that she could combine schooling with wildlife and media commitments.

She appeared on television before she was six months old in an Animal Planet commercial with her father. She later made regular appearances in The Crocodile Hunter and The Crocodile Hunter Diaries, and had a credited role in The Wiggles: Wiggly Safari. When she was eight, her father died while filming an underwater documentary. Irwin delivered the eulogy at his public memorial service at Australia Zoo's Crocoseum.

Bindi the Jungle Girl and acting roles

Irwin made her hosting debut with the Discovery Kids wildlife programme Bindi the Jungle Girl, which ran from 2007 to 2008. The programme earned her the Logie Award for Most Popular New Female Talent and the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Performer in Children's Programming. At age nine, she became the youngest performer to win a Daytime Emmy Award at that time.

Her acting roles include Kirra in the family film Free Willy: Escape from Pirate's Cove and Nim Rusoe in Return to Nim's Island. She also appeared in My Babysitter's a Vampire and voiced Bindi Bungee in Curious George. Her other television work includes Bindi's Bootcamp and Steve Irwin's Wildlife Warriors, which she hosted alongside her family.

Dancing with the Stars

In 2015, Irwin competed on the twenty-first season of the American reality competition series Dancing with the Stars. She was partnered with professional dancer Derek Hough, and the pair won the competition on 24 November 2015, making Irwin the first Australian contestant to win the American series.

Irwin and Hough earned eight perfect scores during the season, setting a record at the time. She later appeared as a guest judge on the Australian version of Dancing with the Stars.

Conservation work and Crikey! It's the Irwins

Irwin was appointed a director of Australia Zoo and joined the board of its non-profit organisation, Wildlife Warriors, in 2017. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she became the chief executive officer of Australia Zoo. She has also served as an ambassador for the World Wildlife Fund's Earth Hour initiative and was involved in a campaign that helped secure protection for the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve from bauxite strip mining.

In 2018, Irwin returned to Animal Planet in Crikey! It's the Irwins, a series that followed her family and their work at Australia Zoo. She starred in and co-produced the programme alongside Terri Irwin and Robert Irwin. Her conservation honours include the Australian Geographic Society's Young Conservationist of the Year award, the Explorers Club's President's Award for Conservation, and the Endometriosis Foundation of America's Blossom Award.

Books and music

Irwin created the children's book series Bindi Wildlife Adventures and published Creating a Conservation Legacy in 2020, a book about her family's conservation history. Her first children's picture book, You Are a Wildlife Warrior!: Saving Animals and the Planet, was published in 2025.

She also released four studio albums and several exercise videos. Her album Bindi Kid Fitness, recorded with Steve Irwin and The Crocmen, reached number 15 on the Australian ARIA chart and received a platinum certification.
