Janhvi Kapoor

Janhvi Kapoor was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, and grew up in a prominent film family. Her father is producer Boney Kapoor and her mother was actress Sridevi. Her younger sister Khushi Kapoor is also an actress, while Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor are her half-siblings. Actors Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor are her uncles.

Kapoor studied at Ecole Mondiale World School in Mumbai and later took an acting course at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in California. Her name was inspired by Urmila Matondkar's character in the 1997 film Judaai, which starred Sridevi and was produced by Boney Kapoor.

Kapoor made her acting debut in Shashank Khaitan's Dhadak in 2018, opposite Ishaan Khatter. The film was a Hindi remake of the Marathi drama Sairat and presented Kapoor as Parthavi Singh Rathore, an upper-class young woman whose life changes after she elopes with a lower-class boy. Although critics gave the film mixed reviews, Dhadak was a commercial success, and Kapoor won the Zee Cine Award for Best Female Debut.

She appeared in Zoya Akhtar's segment of the Netflix anthology Ghost Stories in 2020 before playing aviator Gunjan Saxena in Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl. Kapoor spent time with Saxena, underwent physical training and studied the body language of an air force officer for the role. Her performance earned a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Actress.

In Roohi (2021), Kapoor played a dual role opposite Rajkummar Rao. She followed it with the title role in Good Luck Jerry, a black comedy crime film released on Disney+ Hotstar, and the survival thriller Mili in 2022. In Mili, she played a young woman trapped in a freezer, and the performance brought her another Filmfare Best Actress nomination. She also appeared in the 2020 music video "Kudi Nu Nachne De".

Kapoor starred opposite Varun Dhawan in Bawaal in 2023, a romantic drama released on Amazon Prime Video. In 2024, she reunited with Rajkummar Rao for the sports drama Mr. & Mrs. Mahi and played an Indian Foreign Service officer in the political thriller Ulajh. While preparing for the cricket sequences in Mr. & Mrs. Mahi, she dislocated her shoulder twice.

Kapoor expanded into Telugu cinema with a brief role opposite N. T. Rama Rao Jr in Devara: Part 1. The film became the highest-grossing release of her career and marked her first major commercial success since Dhadak. She later appeared in Homebound, which premiered in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival, and in the romantic comedy Param Sundari and Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari.

In 2026, Kapoor appeared in the Telugu action film Peddi, which became a commercial success. Her upcoming projects include Lag Ja Gale, alongside Tiger Shroff and Lakshya Lalwani, and Raaka, in which she will collaborate with filmmaker Atlee and actor Allu Arjun.

Kapoor has appeared on Rediff.com's lists of notable actresses and has been featured in The Times of India's rankings of India's most desirable women. She has also received style-related honours, including the Lokmat Stylish Award for Stylish Debutant of the Year, the Pinkvilla Style Icons Award for Super Stylish Youth Idol and the Bollywood Hungama Style Icons Award for Stylish Youth Icon.

She has endorsed brands including Nykaa, Drools and Aldo. Her public profile has also been shaped by her fashion appearances, film promotions and work across Hindi and Telugu cinema.
