Liam Hemsworth

Hemsworth was married to American singer and actress Miley Cyrus from December 23, 2018, until their divorce was finalized on January 28, 2020. The couple met while filming The Last Song in 2009, became engaged in 2012, ended their engagement in 2013, and reunited before marrying in 2018.

Hemsworth has been engaged to Australian model Gabriella Brooks since 2025. He has also supported children's charities and served as an ambassador for the Australian Childhood Foundation, an association he connected to his parents' work in child protection.

Hemsworth was born in Melbourne and moved with his family to Phillip Island when he was thirteen. He developed a strong interest in surfing during his teenage years and surfed competitively from ages thirteen to eighteen. His older brothers, Chris Hemsworth and Luke Hemsworth, also became actors.

Before acting became his career, Hemsworth spent six months installing floors. He attended his first audition at sixteen and made his first television appearances in 2007 on Home and Away and McLeod's Daughters. He then played Josh Taylor in the Australian soap opera Neighbours and Marcus in the children's series The Elephant Princess.

Hemsworth moved to the United States in 2009 to pursue film work. He initially shared an apartment in West Hollywood with Chris Hemsworth after the brothers had both pursued opportunities in Hollywood.

Hemsworth's first major film role was Will Blakelee in The Last Song (2010), a drama adapted from the Nicholas Sparks novel. He starred opposite Miley Cyrus, who played Ronnie Miller, and also appeared in her music video for "When I Look at You." The film established him as a leading man and led to his casting as Gale Hawthorne in The Hunger Games.

Hemsworth played Gale in The Hunger Games (2012), The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013), The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (2014), and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 (2015). The franchise, starring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen and Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark, became his defining film work. He shared a 2013 People's Choice Award for the series with Lawrence and Hutcherson.

His early Hollywood career included two notable setbacks. His role in The Expendables was removed from the script, and he lost the title role in Thor to his brother Chris. He later appeared in The Expendables 2 alongside Sylvester Stallone.

After The Hunger Games, Hemsworth appeared in Love and Honor, Empire State, and Paranoia, all released in 2013. He starred with Kate Winslet in the Australian drama The Dressmaker (2015), played fighter pilot Jake Morrison in Independence Day: Resurgence (2016), and portrayed David Kingston in the Western The Duel (2016).

He returned to leading roles in Isn't It Romantic (2019), opposite Rebel Wilson, and played Moe in the action thriller Killerman the same year. His later films included Arkansas (2020), Poker Face (2022), and Land of Bad (2024).

In television, Hemsworth played Dodge Tynes in Most Dangerous Game (2020). Netflix announced in 2022 that he would replace Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher, and he took over the role beginning with the series' fourth season in 2025.
