Manny Pacquiao

Manny Pacquiao married Jinkee Jamora on May 10, 1999. They have five children: Emmanuel Jr. (Jimuel), Michael Stephen, Mary Divine Grace, Queen Elizabeth and Israel. His son Jimuel became a professional boxer, while Michael pursued music and public service.

Pacquiao also has a son, Emmanuel "Eman" Bacosa, with Joanna Rose Bacosa. Eman later pursued professional boxing and publicly used the Pacquiao surname.

Pacquiao left home as a teenager and moved to Manila, where he worked as a laborer and at times lived on the streets. He began boxing professionally on January 22, 1995, at age 16, defeating Edmund Ignacio by unanimous decision in four rounds.

On December 4, 1998, he won his first major championship by knocking out Thailand's Chatchai Sasakul for the World Boxing Council flyweight title. In 2001, he moved to the United States for the first time as a professional and defeated Lehlo Ledwaba by sixth-round technical knockout to win the International Boxing Federation junior featherweight title. Trainer Freddie Roach helped develop Pacquiao's technical skills while preserving his aggressive southpaw style.

Pacquiao became the first boxer to win world titles in eight weight divisions. His major victories included wins over Marco Antonio Barrera, Juan Manuel Márquez, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto, Timothy Bradley, Lucas Matthysse and Keith Thurman.

His 2008 victory over Oscar De La Hoya established him as a global boxing attraction. In 2009, he knocked out Ricky Hatton in the second round and defeated Miguel Cotto to win the WBO welterweight title. The following year, he defeated Antonio Margarito for a world title at super welterweight, despite Margarito's substantial size advantage.

Pacquiao lost to Floyd Mayweather Jr. by unanimous decision in their highly anticipated May 2015 bout. He later regained the WBO welterweight title by defeating Bradley, won the WBA welterweight title against Matthysse in 2018, and became the oldest welterweight world champion in history by defeating Keith Thurman at age 40 in 2019. His professional record is 62 wins, 8 losses and 3 draws, including 39 wins by knockout.

Pacquiao entered electoral politics after an unsuccessful 2007 campaign for the House of Representatives. In 2009, he formed the People's Champ Movement and ran for Congress in Sarangani, winning the seat in 2010 and retaining it in 2013.

He was elected to the Philippine Senate in 2016 and served until 2022. During his Senate career, he worked with Jack Ma during the COVID-19 pandemic to help bring 50,000 test kits to the Philippines. Pacquiao also became acting president of PDP-Laban in 2020, although his leadership was disputed by another faction of the party.

In 2021, he declared his candidacy for president of the Philippines in the 2022 election. He finished third and conceded to Bongbong Marcos, who won the election.

Pacquiao expanded his public career into Philippine film and television. His first leading film role was in Lisensyadong Kamao in 2005. He later appeared in Anak ng Kumander and Wapakman, and starred in the sitcom Show Me Da Manny from 2009 to 2011. The documentary Manny, which covered his life and careers, was released in the United States in 2015.

He released albums including Laban Nating Lahat Ito and Pac-Man Punch. His 2011 recording of "Sometimes When We Touch" reached number 19 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart after he performed the song on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Pacquiao became a player-coach of the Kia Motors team in the Philippine Basketball Association in 2014 and selected himself 11th overall in that year's draft. He played across three PBA seasons, later recording a career-high four points in a 2016 victory.

In 2017, he founded the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, which began as a semi-professional competition and became professional in 2022. He has also served as a reservist in the Philippine Army and attained the rank of colonel.
