Sasha Obama

Sasha Obama is the younger sister of Malia Obama. Her mother, Michelle Obama, calls her "Sassy," while her father has referred to her as his "music guru." She has also been described as the family's cutup.

Sasha has been romantically linked to basketball player Clifton Powell Jr. since 2021. She developed a close friendship with Maisy Biden, the granddaughter of former vice president Joe Biden, during her family's years in Washington.

When Barack Obama was elected president in November 2008, Sasha became the youngest White House resident since John F. Kennedy Jr. and Caroline Kennedy lived there in 1961. She and Malia moved into the Executive Mansion with their parents and their maternal grandmother, Marian Robinson.

Sasha was largely shielded from media attention and received the Secret Service code name "Rosebud." Her life still included official appearances and international travel, including visits to the Kremlin in Moscow and the Vatican in Rome. She attended the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup final with Joe Biden and Maisy Biden and took part in her first State Dinner in 2016.

Sasha attended the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools before entering Sidwell Friends School in January 2009. At Sidwell, she became a competitive swimmer and played basketball. Barack Obama helped coach her basketball team to a league title during the 2011-12 school year before stepping aside after drawing criticism from other parents.

She also studied piano, tennis, gymnastics and tap dance, and took part in a 2012 Moscow Ballet production of The Nutcracker with other children from the Washington, D.C., area. After graduating from Sidwell Friends in June 2019, she enrolled at the University of Michigan. During the 2020-21 academic year, she attended classes remotely from home.

Sasha made an early television appearance in a 2008 Access Hollywood segment about Barack Obama's family. She later joined her parents and Malia on official trips and appeared at selected public events, including a 2010 photo opportunity connected with the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

She had her first job at a seafood restaurant on Martha's Vineyard during the summer of 2016. Sasha also participated in demonstrations against police brutality following the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor in 2020. Her musical interests became briefly visible through singing and dancing videos posted to TikTok that were later deleted.
