Stetson Bennett

Stetson Fleming Bennett IV is the son of Denise and Stetson Bennett III, who met and graduated from the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. He has three younger brothers and one sister. His grandfather, Buddy Bennett, played quarterback for the South Carolina Gamecocks from 1958 to 1960 and later worked as a college football coach.

While attending the University of Georgia, Bennett majored in Learning Design and Technology and received the Dr. Archie Sime and Bettye Rushton Family Scholarship as well as the Irvin W. Wofford Football Scholarship. In January 2023, he was arrested in Dallas, Texas, on a misdemeanor public intoxication charge.

Bennett was raised in Nahunta and Blackshear, Georgia, playing high school football at Pierce County High School under head coach Sean Pender. As a senior, he earned Class 3A Second-Team All-State honors after passing for 3,724 yards, rushing for 500 yards, and producing 40 total touchdowns while leading the program to three consecutive state playoff appearances. Despite his high school production, he was rated a two-star recruit and received only one FBS scholarship offer, from Middle Tennessee State, due to concerns regarding his height and weight.

He enrolled at the University of Georgia in 2017 as a preferred walk-on and redshirted his first year, earning Offensive Scout Team Player of the Year honors. Following the commitment of five-star quarterback Justin Fields, Bennett transferred to Jones College in Ellisville, Mississippi, for the 2018 season. At Jones, he threw for 1,840 yards and 16 touchdowns across 12 games, guiding the Bobcats to a 10-2 record, the MACJC Championship game, and a Mississippi Bowl victory. After Fields transferred to Ohio State, Georgia offered Bennett a scholarship to return in 2019 as a backup.

Bennett served as Jake Fromm's backup in 2019 and stepped into starting duties during the 2020 season after D'Wan Mathis struggled, later splitting time with USC transfer JT Daniels. Bennett entered the 2021 season as a backup, but he took over after Daniels suffered an oblique injury against UAB, a contest in which Bennett tied the school single-game record with five passing touchdowns. He retained the starting role for the remainder of the season, throwing 29 touchdowns and leading Georgia to an undefeated regular season. After defeating Michigan 34-11 in the Capital One Orange Bowl, Bennett completed 17 of 26 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns in the 2022 CFP National Championship against Alabama, securing Georgia's first national title since 1980 and earning Offensive MVP honors.

Returning for a sixth collegiate season in 2022, Bennett guided Georgia to a 15-0 record and the SEC Championship, where he threw four touchdowns against LSU and earned game MVP honors. In the College Football Playoff, he engineered a fourth-quarter comeback over Ohio State in the Peach Bowl before throwing four touchdowns and running for two more in a 65-7 victory over TCU in the 2023 CFP National Championship Game. His six total touchdowns against TCU tied Joe Burrow's championship game record. Bennett finished the 2022 campaign with a school-record 4,127 passing yards, won the Manning Award and the Burlsworth Trophy, and finished fourth in Heisman Trophy voting.

Bennett was selected by the Los Angeles Rams with the 128th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL draft. Prior to the regular season, he was placed on the reserve/non-football illness list in September 2023, spending the entire 2023 season away from the team to address his mental health.

He rejoined the Rams for offseason activities ahead of the 2024 season. Bennett took on extensive preseason playing time under head coach Sean McVay, competing on the depth chart alongside Matthew Stafford and other reserve quarterbacks.
