Tom Brady

Tom Brady married fashion model Gisele Bündchen in 2009, and their marriage ended in divorce in 2022. They had a son, Benjamin Rein Brady, and a daughter, Vivian Lake Brady. Brady also has a son, John Edward Thomas Moynahan, from a previous relationship with actress Bridget Moynahan.

Brady's family includes his sisters Maureen Brady, Nancy Brady, and Julie Brady. His brother-in-law is baseball player Kevin Youkilis, who married Julie Brady.

Growing up in San Mateo, California, Brady attended San Francisco 49ers games and followed quarterback Joe Montana, who became his childhood idol. He excelled at football and baseball at Junipero Serra High School. The Montreal Expos selected him as a catcher in the 18th round of the 1995 Major League Baseball draft, but he did not sign and instead attended the University of Michigan.

Brady was a backup when Michigan went 12-0 and won the 1997 national championship. He shared the starting quarterback position with Drew Henson in 1998 and 1999, compiling a 20-5 record over those two seasons and winning the 1999 Orange Bowl.

The New England Patriots selected Brady in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL draft with the 199th overall pick. He spent his rookie season as a fourth-string quarterback behind Drew Bledsoe, John Friesz, and Michael Bishop before moving to the second-string role in 2001.

When Bledsoe suffered a serious injury against the New York Jets in the second game of the 2001 season, Brady took over. He led the Patriots to an 11-3 finish, then guided them through the playoffs to a 20-17 victory over the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI, earning the game's Most Valuable Player award.

Brady and the Patriots won three Super Bowls in four seasons, adding victories over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl XXXVIII and the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX. During Brady's first three seasons as the Patriots' starter, the team posted a 40-12 record.

In 2007, Brady threw 50 touchdown passes and led New England to the first 16-0 regular season in NFL history. He won the NFL Most Valuable Player award, although the Patriots lost Super Bowl XLII to the New York Giants. Brady suffered a season-ending torn anterior cruciate ligament in the 2008 opener, then returned to earn a Pro Bowl selection in 2009.

Brady led the NFL with 36 touchdown passes in 2010 and won his second NFL MVP award after the season. In 2011, he passed for 5,235 yards while frequently targeting tight end Rob Gronkowski, and in 2017 he led the league in passing yards while earning his third MVP award.

The Patriots defeated the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX, overcame a 25-point deficit to beat the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI, and defeated the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII. The 2018 victory gave Brady his sixth championship with New England and made him, at 41, the oldest quarterback to win a Super Bowl at that point. He left the Patriots in free agency after the 2019 season, ending a 20-season run with the team.

Brady signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March 2020. In his first season, he led the team to three consecutive road playoff victories and then defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV. The championship was Tampa Bay's second and Brady's seventh. He was named Super Bowl MVP for the fifth time.

During the 2021 season, Brady broke the NFL career passing-yardage record and became the first player to throw 600 touchdown passes. He finished that season with a career-best 5,316 passing yards and a league-leading 43 touchdowns. Tampa Bay won its division before losing to the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional playoffs.

Brady announced his retirement in February 2022, returned to play the 2022 season, and announced his retirement again in February 2023. He finished with NFL records for 7,753 pass completions, 89,214 passing yards, and 649 passing touchdowns. His regular-season and playoff totals combined exceeded 100,000 passing yards.

Brady's approach to fitness became the subject of The TB12 Method: How to Achieve a Lifetime of Sustained Peak Performance, published in 2017. The book presents the performance philosophy associated with his TB12 identity.

Beginning with the 2024 NFL season, Brady worked as an analyst for Fox Sports.
