Amber Heard

Heard was in a relationship with painter and photographer Tasya van Ree from 2008 to 2012 and publicly came out in 2010. She has said that she does not identify with a fixed label and that she has had relationships with both men and women.

Heard was married to actor Johnny Depp from 2015 to 2017. They first met while working on The Rum Diary and later became involved in two high-profile defamation cases.

Heard's first child, a daughter named Oonagh Paige Heard, was born via surrogacy in 2021. In 2025, she announced the arrival of twins named Agnes and Ocean.

Heard began her screen career with appearances in Kenny Chesney's music video "There Goes My Life" and Eisley's "I Wasn't Prepared". She made her film debut in Friday Night Lights in 2004 and had early television roles in Jack & Bobby, The Mountain, The O.C., Criminal Minds, and Californication.

Her first leading film role was in the thriller All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, which premiered at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival. Distribution problems delayed its release in Europe until 2008 and in the United States until 2013. In 2007, she also played Greta Matthews in the television series Hidden Palms.

Heard gained mainstream recognition in 2008 with supporting roles in Pineapple Express and Never Back Down. She received a Young Hollywood Award for her breakthrough performance in Pineapple Express. Her subsequent credits included The Joneses, Zombieland, The Stepfather, The Ward, and Drive Angry.

Heard appeared opposite Johnny Depp in The Rum Diary in 2011 and took prominent roles in Paranoia, Machete Kills, 3 Days to Kill, Magic Mike XXL, The Danish Girl, and The Adderall Diaries. For One More Time, she played a struggling singer-songwriter and learned to sing and play piano and guitar. She also served as a co-producer on And Soon the Darkness and an executive producer on Syrup.

In 2017, Heard joined the DC Extended Universe as Mera in Justice League. She reprised the role in Aquaman, Zack Snyder's Justice League, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. She also played Nadine Cross in the miniseries The Stand and appeared in Her Smell, Gully, London Fields, and In the Fire.

Heard was cast as Genevieve in Jeremy O. Harris's play Spirit of the People, which premiered at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in 2025.

Heard has advocated for civil rights, gender justice, women's rights, and refugee support. She became an American Civil Liberties Union Artist Ambassador in 2016 and later served as an ambassador supporting the organization's advocacy on gender issues. She also served as a Human Rights Ambassador for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Her humanitarian work has included missions with the Syrian American Medical Society to support Syrian refugees in Jordan and Lebanon, as well as work with Smile Train in Mexico. She spoke publicly against domestic violence and nonconsensual image sharing, supported the SHIELD Act, and addressed the gender pay gap and LGBTQ representation in Hollywood.

Heard was a key witness in Johnny Depp's 2020 libel case against the publisher of The Sun. The court ruled against Depp's claim and found that the majority of alleged assaults described by Heard had been proved to the civil standard. In the 2022 Virginia defamation case brought by Depp over a Washington Post op-ed, the jury found that statements made by Heard were defamatory, while also finding one statement by Depp's lawyer defamatory toward Heard. The case was settled in 2022.
