Olivia Wilde

Wilde was married to Italian filmmaker and musician Tao Ruspoli from 2003 to 2011. She later became engaged to actor Jason Sudeikis in 2013, and they had two children, a son born in 2014 and a daughter born in 2016. Their relationship ended in 2020.

Wilde began a relationship with singer Harry Styles in 2021 after they met during the filming of Don't Worry Darling. Their relationship ended in 2022.

Born Olivia Jane Cockburn, Wilde grew up in Georgetown, Washington, D.C., and spent summers in Ardmore, Ireland. Her parents, Andrew Cockburn and Leslie Cockburn, were journalists, and her father’s family had longstanding connections to journalism and writing. She attended Georgetown Day School and Phillips Academy, graduating in 2002.

Wilde was accepted to Bard College but deferred enrollment three times to pursue acting. She later studied at the Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin. She adopted the surname Wilde in high school as a tribute to Irish writer Oscar Wilde and later changed it legally.

Wilde made her television debut in Skin in 2003 and gained wider attention as Alex Kelly on The O.C. from 2004 to 2005. In 2007, she joined the cast of House as Dr. Remy "Thirteen" Hadley, a bisexual physician diagnosed with Huntington's disease. She remained associated with the series through its 2012 finale.

Her major film roles include Quorra in Tron: Legacy (2010), Ella Swensen in Cowboys & Aliens (2011), and appearances in In Time, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, Her, Rush, Drinking Buddies, The Lazarus Effect, Meadowland, and Richard Jewell. She made her Broadway debut as Julia in the stage adaptation of 1984 in 2017.

Wilde began directing with the short film Free Hugs in 2011 and later directed music videos for Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Her feature directing debut, Booksmart (2019), follows two academically successful high school seniors who try to make up for experiences they believe they missed. The film received strong reviews and won the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature.

She directed and appeared in the psychological thriller Don't Worry Darling (2022), which starred Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, Gemma Chan, and Chris Pine. Wilde later directed and appeared in The Invite, a comedy featuring Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton.

Wilde has supported women's rights, abortion access, and efforts to address sexism in Hollywood. She campaigned for Barack Obama in 2008, introduced Hillary Clinton at a 2015 campaign event, and participated in the Women's Marches in Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles.

She has served on the board of Artists for Peace and Justice, an organization supporting education and health programs in Haiti, and on the board of the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California. As an executive producer, she worked on documentary shorts including Sun City Picture House, Baseball in the Time of Cholera, Body Team 12, and Fear Us Women.
