By age 10, she was traveling to New York for theater auditions. She appeared in productions at Maine State Music Theatre and attended Deering High School, where she sang in several choirs.

At age 12, Kendrick made her Broadway debut as Dinah Lord in the 1998 musical High Society. Her performance brought Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations, as well as a Theatre World Award. She later appeared in the New York City Opera production of Stephen Sondheim's A Little Night Music in 2003.

Kendrick made her film debut as Fritzi Wagner in the musical comedy Camp (2003), earning an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Debut Performance. Twilight and Up in the Air

Kendrick played Jessica Stanley, a friend of Bella Swan, in Twilight (2008). She reprised the role in The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009), The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010), and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 (2011). The franchise introduced her to an international audience.

Her performance as ambitious young businesswoman Natalie Keener in Jason Reitman's Up in the Air (2009) brought Kendrick major critical attention. Starring alongside George Clooney, she portrayed a new employee who travels with his corporate downsizing specialist and challenges his preference for face-to-face work. During this period, Kendrick also appeared in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010), playing Stacey Pilgrim, and in the cancer comedy-drama 50/50 (2011), in which she played an inexperienced therapist.

Pitch Perfect, Trolls, and musical roles
