Timberlake began dating actress Jessica Biel in January 2007. The couple became engaged in December 2011 and married on October 19, 2012, at the Borgo Egnazia resort in Fasano, Italy. Together they have two sons, Silas, born in April 2015, and Phineas, born in July 2020. Earlier in his life, Timberlake had high-profile relationships with singer Britney Spears from 1999 to 2002 and actress Cameron Diaz from 2003 to 2006.

In July 2025, Timberlake revealed that he had been diagnosed with Lyme disease, sharing that the condition had caused him significant nerve pain and fatigue while touring. In June 2024, he was arrested in Sag Harbor, New York, for driving while intoxicated after refusing a breathalyzer test. In September 2024, he resolved the case by pleading guilty to a noncriminal driving while impaired traffic violation, receiving a fine, community service, and a license suspension.

Justin Randall Timberlake was born on January 31, 1981, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Janet Lynn Harless and Charles Randall Timberlake, a Baptist church choir director. He grew up in a musical family environment, where his grandfather introduced him to country artists including Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson, while his father exposed him to rhythm and blues classics and rock records.

Timberlake began singing country and gospel music at an early age. At 11 years old, he competed on the television talent competition Star Search, performing country songs under the stage name Justin Randall. From 1993 to 1995, he joined the television cast of Disney Channel's The All New Mickey Mouse Club, performing skits, choreography, and songs alongside future pop peers Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and JC Chasez.

In 1995, Timberlake teamed up with JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, and Lance Bass to form the boy band NSYNC, managed by Lou Pearlman. The first volume became the best-selling album of 2013 in the United States and produced the hit singles "Suit & Tie" and "Mirrors". In 2016, his single "Can't Stop the Feeling!" from the Trolls soundtrack debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song. Outside of entertainment, Timberlake has launched numerous commercial ventures, including the clothing brand William Rast, established in 2005 with Trace Ayala. He has invested in hospitality, spirits brands such as Sauza 901, beverage maker Bai Brands, and holds a minority ownership stake in the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies alongside his wife, Jessica Biel. Timberlake's philanthropic efforts include founding the Justin Timberlake Foundation to support music education programs in schools.
