Christina Aguilera

Aguilera has two children. She has a son, Max Liron, with record producer Jordan Bratman, whom she married in 2005. They separated in 2010 and finalized their divorce in 2011. Aguilera and Matthew Rutler became romantically involved while working on Burlesque, announced their engagement in 2014, and welcomed their daughter, Summer Rain Rutler, later that year.

Her father, Fausto Wagner Xavier Aguilera Monge, was an Ecuadorian U.S. Army sergeant, while her American-born mother, Shelly Loraine Fidler Kearns, was a pianist and violinist. Aguilera's parents divorced when she was young, and her mother moved with Aguilera and her younger sister, Rachel, to Pennsylvania.

Aguilera's vocal talent was recognized during childhood, when she performed in local talent shows and sang the national anthem at Pittsburgh sporting events. She competed on Star Search as a child and placed second after singing Etta James' "A Sunday Kind of Love."

At age 12, Aguilera joined The All New Mickey Mouse Club, remaining on the program for two years. Her castmates included Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Ryan Gosling, Keri Russell, and J.C. Chasez. After leaving the show, she traveled to Japan and recorded "All I Wanna Do" with Japanese pop singer Keizo Nakanishi.

In 1998, Aguilera recorded "Reflection" for the soundtrack of Disney's Mulan and signed with RCA Records. Her self-titled debut album was released in 1999, with "Genie in a Bottle" and "What a Girl Wants" among its major singles. The album sold more than eight million copies in the United States and earned Aguilera the Grammy Award for Best New Artist.

She followed the debut with the Spanish-language album Mi Reflejo and the Christmas album My Kind of Christmas in 2000. For Mi Reflejo, Aguilera learned the Spanish lyrics phonetically. In 2001, she joined Pink, Mya, and Lil' Kim on "Lady Marmalade" for the Moulin Rouge! soundtrack, winning the Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals.

Aguilera shifted away from her early teen-pop image with Stripped, released in 2002. The album included "Dirrty," "Beautiful," and "Can't Hold Us Down," and presented a more sexually expressive and self-directed style. She later toured with Justin Timberlake on the Justified and Stripped Tour.

Her 2006 double album Back to Basics drew on jazz, soul, and standards from the 1920s through the 1940s. The album produced "Ain't No Other Man," "Hurt," and "Candyman," and "Ain't No Other Man" won the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Aguilera has repeatedly used changes in musical style and visual presentation to mark different phases of her career.

Aguilera made her film debut in Burlesque in 2010, playing Ali Rose and co-starring with Cher. She also contributed songs to the film's soundtrack, including "Show Me How You Burlesque." She later held a recurring role on the television drama Nashville and appeared in the voice cast of The Emoji Movie.

In 2011, Aguilera became a coach on the singing competition The Voice, working alongside Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton, and Adam Levine. She left the show after its third season, returned for its fifth season, and later served again as a coach. She also performed with Adam Levine's band, Maroon 5, on the 2011 hit single "Moves Like Jagger." In 2015, she won a Grammy with A Great Big World for the ballad "Say Something."

Aguilera released Bionic in 2010, experimenting with electronic sounds and collaborations with Le Tigre and M.I.A. Her later albums included Lotus and Liberation, whose 2018 single "Accelerate" featured Ty Dolla $ign and 2 Chainz. She has also continued recording in Spanish, including songs associated with her Latin music releases.

Beyond music and acting, Aguilera has supported AIDS awareness campaigns and the Women's Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh. In 2010, she became an Ambassador Against Hunger for the World Food Program and traveled to Haiti to help earthquake victims. She recorded the song "Change" in honor of people affected by the 2016 Orlando nightclub shooting.
