Kylie Minogue

Kylie Minogue was born to Ronald Charles Minogue and Carol Anne Jones. She is the eldest of three children, with younger siblings Dannii Minogue, a singer and television host, and Brendan Minogue, a news cameraman. The family moved between suburbs of Melbourne during her childhood, and Minogue attended schools including Camberwell High School.

Minogue was in relationships with French actor Olivier Martinez and Spanish model Andrés Velencoso. She was engaged to British actor Joshua Sasse, with the engagement announced in 2016; the couple separated in 2017. She later dated Paul Solomons, and that relationship ended in 2023. IMDb lists Minogue as having no children.

Minogue began acting on Australian television as a child, appearing in small roles in series including The Sullivans and Skyways. She gained wider recognition after being cast as Charlene Mitchell, later Charlene Robinson, in the Australian soap opera Neighbours. Her two-year run from 1986 to 1988 made her known in Australia and Great Britain, particularly through a storyline pairing Charlene with Jason Donovan's character. Their characters' wedding episode attracted an audience of 20 million viewers in Britain.

Her music career began after she performed “The Loco-Motion” at a benefit concert with fellow Neighbours cast members. She signed with Mushroom Records in 1987 and worked with the production team Stock, Aitken & Waterman. “The Loco-Motion” spent seven weeks at number one in Australia, while “I Should Be So Lucky” topped the charts in several countries. Her debut album, Kylie, was released in 1988, and she left Neighbours later that year to concentrate on music.

Minogue's early albums included Enjoy Yourself (1989), Rhythm of Love (1990) and Let's Get to It (1991). After leaving Stock, Aitken & Waterman, she pursued a more mature direction on the self-titled Kylie Minogue (1994) and the more experimental Impossible Princess (1997). Her 1995 collaboration with Nick Cave, “Where the Wild Roses Grow,” reached number two in Australia and won ARIA Awards for Song of the Year and Best Pop Release.

She returned to mainstream dance-pop with Light Years (2000), whose single “Spinning Around” became her first United Kingdom number one in a decade. Her next album, Fever (2001), became an international success, driven by “Can't Get You Out of My Head,” which reached number one in more than 40 countries. Later releases included Body Language (2003), X (2007), Aphrodite (2010), Kiss Me Once (2014), Golden (2018) and DISCO (2020). Golden incorporated country influences, while DISCO returned to the dance-pop sound associated with much of her career.

Minogue has mounted concert tours including the Enjoy Yourself Tour, Rhythm of Love Tour, Intimate and Live, KylieFever2002, Showgirl, KylieX2008, Aphrodite: Les Folies and Kiss Me Once. She also marked 25 years in music with the 2012 Anti Tour, which focused on B-sides, demos and rarities from her catalogue. Her performances have included the closing ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympics and the closing ceremony of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Her film debut was the lead role of Lola Lovell in The Delinquents (1989). Other film appearances include Cammy in Street Fighter, the Green Fairy in Moulin Rouge!, Holy Motors, San Andreas and Back to the Outback. She played Astrid Peth in the 2007 Doctor Who Christmas special “Voyage of the Damned” and served as a coach on The Voice UK and The Voice Australia.

In 2005, Minogue was diagnosed with breast cancer and postponed her Showgirl tour. She underwent surgery and chemotherapy, then resumed touring in 2006 with revised performances that included slower costume changes and longer breaks. Her public discussion of her diagnosis and treatment was associated with increased awareness of breast-cancer checks, and she later supported breast-cancer campaigns and cancer research initiatives.

Minogue won a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording for “Come into My World” in 2004 and a second Grammy for “Padam Padam” in 2024. She was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2008, received the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2011. With DISCO, she became the first female artist to reach number one on the British album chart in five consecutive decades.
