Blake Shelton

Shelton married Kaynette Gern on November 17, 2003, and their marriage ended in divorce in 2006. He later began dating fellow country musician Miranda Lambert after meeting at the CMT 100 Greatest Duets Concert in 2005. Shelton proposed to Lambert in May 2010, and they married on May 14, 2011, in Boerne, Texas. On July 20, 2015, the couple announced their divorce, which was finalized that same day.

In late 2015, Shelton began dating singer Gwen Stefani while they were working together on the ninth season of The Voice. The couple announced their engagement in October 2020 and married on July 3, 2021, at a chapel on Shelton's Oklahoma property. Through his marriage to Stefani, Shelton became a stepfather to her three sons, Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo.

Blake Tollison Shelton was born on June 18, 1976, in Ada, Oklahoma, to Dorothy Ann, a beauty salon owner, and Richard Lee "Dick" Shelton, a car salesman. He began singing at an early age, learned guitar from his uncle at age 12, and wrote his first song when he was 15. At age 16, he received the Denbo Diamond Award for young entertainers in Oklahoma. In November 1990, his older brother, Richie Shelton, died in an automobile accident at age 24.

Following his high school graduation at age 17, Shelton moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue a professional music career. Songwriter Mae Boren Axton aided him with employment and industry introductions, and in 1997 he connected with producer and songwriter Bobby Braddock, who helped him secure a recording contract.

Shelton made his recording debut in 2001 with the single "Austin," which spent five weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. His self-titled debut album was released on Warner Bros. Records and earned platinum certification, producing additional hits like "All Over Me" and "Ol' Red." His subsequent releases in the 2000s, including The Dreamer, Blake Shelton's Barn & Grill, Pure BS, and Startin' Fires, established him as a regular fixture on country radio with number-one singles such as "The Baby," "Some Beach," "Home," and "She Wouldn't Be Gone."

In the 2010s and 2020s, Shelton released commercially successful albums including Red River Blue, Based on a True Story..., Bringing Back the Sunshine, If I'm Honest, Texoma Shore, and Body Language. His single "Doin' What She Likes" set a record for consecutive number-one singles on the Country Airplay chart, a streak that eventually extended to 17 consecutive chart-toppers with "Came Here to Forget." In 2010, he was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry by Trace Adkins, and in 2014, he was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame. After more than two decades with Warner Music Nashville, Shelton signed with BBR Music Group and Wheelhouse Records in 2024.

Shelton appeared on television competitions such as Nashville Star and Clash of the Choirs before joining the original coaching panel of NBC's The Voice in 2011. He served as a coach for 23 consecutive seasons until stepping down in 2023. During his tenure, nine artists from his team won the competition, including Jermaine Paul, Cassadee Pope, Danielle Bradbery, Craig Wayne Boyd, Sundance Head, Chloe Kohanski, Todd Tilghman, Cam Anthony, and Bryce Leatherwood.

Beyond coaching, Shelton has executive produced television projects such as the competition series Barmageddon and multiple holiday television films for the Hallmark Channel. He has also voiced characters in animated feature films, including Earl in The Angry Birds Movie and Ox in UglyDolls, and made appearances in films such as The Ridiculous 6.

In partnership with Ryman Hospitality Properties, Shelton developed the Ole Red chain of restaurants and entertainment complexes. The first location opened in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, in 2017, followed by venues in Nashville, Gatlinburg, Orlando, and the Las Vegas Strip.

Shelton has supported charitable causes across Oklahoma and nationally. In 2016, he donated $600,000 from concert proceeds to the Jimmy Everest Center at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, establishing the Blake Shelton Cancer Research Program for pediatric blood diseases and cancer. He has also contributed to the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, and music education programs in communities hosting his business venues.
