Benson Boone

Boone grew up in Monroe, Washington, as the only boy among five siblings. His parents are Nate and Kerry Boone, and his four sisters are Kaylee, Natalee, Emma, and Claire.

He was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and briefly attended Brigham Young University-Idaho. He no longer identifies exclusively with the church, although he has said that he maintains a sober lifestyle as a personal choice. Boone began a public relationship with actress and influencer Maggie Thurmon in early 2024, and the relationship was described as ending in September 2025.

Boone initially showed promise as an athlete rather than as a singer. He competed in diving at Monroe High School and finished sixth at the 2020 Washington state championships. His father, Nate, recalled that Boone had been doing backflips from a young age, a skill that later became part of his stage performances.

Boone discovered his singing ability during his junior year, when a friend asked him to play piano and sing in a high-school battle of the bands competition. He later played Buddy in his school's production of Elf: The Musical. After graduating in 2020, he attended college for one semester before pausing his studies to pursue music.

In 2021, Boone auditioned for season 19 of American Idol by performing Aidan Martin's "Punchline." Katy Perry told him that she could see him winning the competition, but Boone withdrew after reaching the Top 24. He said he wanted to build a music career without being defined by the show.

Boone began posting singing videos on TikTok after a friend recommended the platform. His audience grew rapidly, and his original music clips helped him attract the attention of Dan Reynolds, the frontman of Imagine Dragons.

Reynolds signed Boone to Night Street Records, his label in partnership with Warner Records, in 2021. Reynolds also became a mentor to Boone, who flew to Las Vegas to work with him and subsequently relocated there. Boone's first single, "Ghost Town," was released through the label in October 2021. He played drums, guitar, and piano on the recording and designed its artwork.

"Ghost Town" became Boone's first Billboard Hot 100 entry in the United States and reached number one in Norway. He followed it with "Room for 2" in 2022 and "In the Stars," a song about the death of his great-grandmother.

Boone's breakthrough came with "Beautiful Things," released in January 2024. The song reached number two on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and topped charts in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Norway, France, Germany, Ireland, and New Zealand. It also won the Billboard Global 200 Song and Billboard Global 200 Excl. U.S. Song awards.

The song led into Boone's debut studio album, Fireworks & Rollerblades, released in April 2024. The album reached number six on the U.S. Billboard 200. Boone performed "Beautiful Things" at the 2025 Grammy Awards, incorporating his trademark backflips and other acrobatics.

Boone opened for Taylor Swift at Wembley Stadium during The Eras Tour on June 23, 2024, alongside Paramore. His second studio album, American Heart, was released in June 2025 and included "Mystical Magical," "Momma Song," and "Mr. Electric Blue."

Boone's live performances combine pop-rock singing with flips, jumps, and other athletic movements. He has described cliff jumping and other adrenaline-fueled activities as a way of finding a feeling similar to the challenge of performing onstage. In 2022, he completed a tethered 629-foot jump from Auckland's Sky Tower.

He also performs rollerblading tricks and used the activity as the inspiration for the title of his Fireworks & Rollerblades World Tour. In 2025, his 34-show North American arena tour sold out within nine seconds.

Boone cites artists including Adele, Stevie Wonder, Queen, Freddie Mercury, Billy Joel, Sam Smith, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Presley, Elton John, and Jon Bellion as influences. He has drawn comparisons with Mercury because of his vocal range and theatrical stage presence. At Coachella in 2025, he performed "Bohemian Rhapsody" with Queen guitarist Brian May.
