Hilary Farr

Hilary Farr was married to Canadian television producer Gordon Farr from 1982 until their divorce in 2008. They had one son, Joshua Farr, who was born in 1983.

Farr was diagnosed with a precancerous tumour in 2012, which was surgically removed. After a subsequent mammogram revealed malignant breast cancer in 2014, she underwent radiation therapy and further surgery. She has described remaining in remission since treatment.

Farr auditioned for and became the first person signed as the designer and co-host of Love It or List It. The home-renovation series premiered on Canada's W Network in 2008 and was later picked up by HGTV in 2011. She co-hosted the program with real-estate agent David Visentin.

Farr left Love It or List It in 2023. She also appeared as a guest judge on Brother Vs. Brother and contributed to other home-design television programs.

Farr began her design career in Los Angeles, where she purchased and renovated properties while also designing film and television sets. Her renovation work extended across Australia, the United Kingdom, California, New York and Toronto. She became president of Hilary Farr's Designs, with offices in New York and Toronto.

Her celebrity renovation clients have included Jenna Elfman and Jennifer Hudson. In 2017, Farr co-founded Rules of Renovation, a real-estate investment seminar series held at locations across North America.

Before becoming widely known for home-design television, Farr acted under the name Hilary Labow. Her film credits include The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), City on Fire (1979) and The Return (1980), along with smaller roles in Layout for 5 Models, Legend of the Werewolf and other productions. She played Betty Munroe in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Farr performed as Betty Rizzo and sang the role of Marty in a London stage production of Grease with Richard Gere. In 2016, she appeared as Malignicent in Ross Petty's Toronto production of Sleeping Beauty. She later appeared in the television film Designing Christmas in 2022.

Farr hosted Tough Love with Hilary Farr, serving as the program's principal designer. The series expanded her television work beyond the renovation competition format associated with Love It or List It.

Farr has expressed a strong interest in animal rescue. In 2017, she volunteered in Nairobi with an organization dedicated to protecting orphaned elephants.
