Alicia Villarreal

Alicia Villarreal was married to record producer Ezequiel Cuevas from 1991 to 1993 and to actor Arturo Carmona from 1998 to 2001. She and Carmona have a daughter, Melanie Aidée Carmona Villarreal.

Villarreal married producer Cruz Martínez, with whom she has two sons, Cruz Ángelo Martínez Villarreal and Félix Estefano Martínez Villarreal. Her brother José Víctor Villarreal Esparza died in a car accident in Monterrey in 2009.

Before beginning her solo career, Villarreal performed with different bands in Monterrey. She became the lead singer of Grupo Límite in 1994, helping establish the group in the Tejano and norteño music scenes.

Grupo Límite began touring with Grupo Bronco in 1995. During this period, Villarreal toured extensively and performed songs including "Acaríciame," "Te Aprovechas" and "Solo Contigo." The group released six albums, including a live album recorded in Mexico City.

Villarreal released her first solo album, Soy Lo Prohibido, in 2001. The ranchera-style album included "Te Quedó Grande la Yegua," one of her best-known songs. Her second solo album, Cuando el Corazón Se Cruza, followed in 2005 and was produced by Cruz Martínez, who also co-wrote several songs with her.

Her third solo album, Orgullo de Mujer, was released in 2006, followed by La Jefa in 2009. La Jefa debuted at number one on Billboard's Regional Mexican Albums chart and reached number four on its Latin Albums chart. Billboard also lists Orgullo de Mujer and La Jefa on the Billboard 200.

Villarreal made her acting debut as Raquel in the 2006 telenovela Duelo de Pasiones. Her song "Insensible a Ti" served as the program's theme song, and she appeared in four episodes.

Her screen credits also include the short film ¿Y si te mueres? and the live music video Alicia Villarreal Feat. HaAsh: Te aprovechas (Live)*.

Villarreal performed "Si Una Vez" at the televised tribute Selena Vive in 2006. She has received two Latin Grammy Awards, one connected to her work with Grupo Límite and one for her solo career, as well as a Grammy nomination for Orgullo de Mujer.

After taking a hiatus to raise her children, Villarreal returned with La Villarreal in 2017. The album combined ranchera, norteño, pop, rock and symphonic arrangements, and was recorded live in Mexico with 40 musicians. Her collaborations have included producer Cruz Martínez, Spanish singer David Bisbal on "Tu Ausencia," and appearances onstage with opera singer Andrea Bocelli.
