Josh Giddey

Josh Giddey is the son of former professional basketball players Kim and Warrick Giddey. Warrick played for the Illawarra Hawks and Melbourne Tigers in the National Basketball League, while Kim played for the Melbourne Tigers in the Women's National Basketball League.

His sister, Hannah Giddey, played college basketball for the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles and later Southern Nazarene University.

Giddey attended St Kevin's College in Melbourne before joining the NBA Global Academy at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra. He also attended UC Senior Secondary College Lake Ginninderra while training full time at the academy. In 2019, he led Victoria Metro to the Australian Under-18 Championship title after averaging 20 points, 8.3 rebounds and six assists per game.

In 2020, Giddey was named MVP after helping the NBA Global Academy win the Torneo Junior Ciutat de L'Hospitalet in Barcelona. He also participated in Basketball Without Borders during NBA All-Star Weekend in Chicago and was selected as an all-star of the camp.

Giddey signed with the Adelaide 36ers in March 2020 as part of the NBL Next Stars program. He became the first Australian player in the program and turned down offers from several NCAA Division I schools, including Arizona. During the 2020-21 season, he recorded three consecutive triple-doubles, led the NBL in assists at 7.6 per game and won NBL Rookie of the Year.

The Oklahoma City Thunder selected Giddey with the sixth overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft. He made his NBA debut in October 2021 and earned four consecutive NBA Western Conference Rookie of the Month awards covering October and November, December, January and February.

On 2 January 2022, Giddey recorded 17 points, 14 assists and 13 rebounds against the Dallas Mavericks to become the youngest player in NBA history to post a triple-double. He later became the first rookie since Oscar Robertson in 1961 to record three consecutive triple-doubles. Giddey finished his rookie season with four triple-doubles and was selected to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team.

In January 2024, he became the first NBA player to record a triple-double while shooting 100 percent from the field in fewer than 25 minutes. He played for Oklahoma City from 2021 to 2024.

The Bulls acquired Giddey from Oklahoma City in June 2024 in a trade that sent guard Alex Caruso to the Thunder. In his first season with Chicago, Giddey recorded several notable triple-doubles, including a 20-point, 13-rebound and 11-assist performance against the Brooklyn Nets.

In March 2025, he produced 15 points, 17 assists, 10 rebounds and eight steals against the Los Angeles Lakers, narrowly missing a quadruple-double. Later that month, he hit a half-court buzzer-beating game winner against the Lakers while recording 25 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists. That was his fifth triple-double of the season, making him the first Bulls player since Michael Jordan to record at least five triple-doubles in a season.

Giddey later joined Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen as the only Bulls players to record a season with at least 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists. He signed a four-year contract extension with Chicago in September 2025.

Giddey represented Australia at the 2019 FIBA Under-17 Oceania Championship, averaging 16.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and five assists per game. He was named to the tournament's All-Star Five after helping Australia win the gold medal.

He made his senior national-team debut in February 2020 during FIBA Asia Cup qualifying. Giddey later represented Australia at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, where he averaged 19.4 points, five rebounds and six assists and was recognised as the tournament's Rising Star.
