Brandon Ingram is an American professional basketball player known for winning the 2020 NBA Most Improved Player award and becoming a two-time NBA All-Star. The forward was selected second overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2016 NBA draft and has also played for the New Orleans Pelicans and Toronto Raptors.

Personal life

Brandon Ingram has been in a relationship with rapper GloRilla since July 2025. He was born to Donald and Joann Ingram and has two older half-siblings, Donovan and Brittany.

His father worked as a police officer, managed a local gym, played semi-professional basketball, and later worked at a welding plant. Ingram also developed a close basketball connection with former NBA player Jerry Stackhouse, who became his Amateur Athletic Union coach and mentor.

Four straight state championships at Kinston

Ingram played all four years of his high school career at Kinston High School in North Carolina. He helped the Kinston Vikings win four consecutive North Carolina High School Athletic Association state championships from 2012 through 2015.

As a senior, Ingram averaged 24.3 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. He was named North Carolina Mr. Basketball, played in the 2015 McDonald's All-American Game, and was rated among the top prospects in his recruiting class.

One season with the Duke Blue Devils

Ingram committed to Duke University in April 2015 and played one season for the Blue Devils. During the 2015-16 season, he averaged 17.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 36 games.

Duke reached the Sweet 16 of the 2016 NCAA tournament, with Ingram averaging 23.0 points in the tournament. He was named Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year and received honorable mention All-American recognition from the Associated Press before declaring for the NBA draft.

From the Lakers to the Pelicans

The Los Angeles Lakers selected Ingram with the second overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team after his first season and participated in the Rising Stars Challenge in 2017 and 2018.

The Lakers traded Ingram to the New Orleans Pelicans in 2019 as part of the deal that brought Anthony Davis to Los Angeles. Ingram became an All-Star in his first season with New Orleans and won the NBA Most Improved Player award after averaging 23.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game.

Toronto Raptors and Team USA

The Pelicans traded Ingram to the Toronto Raptors in February 2025. He was later named to the 2026 NBA All-Star team as a replacement for the injured Stephen Curry.

Ingram was selected to the United States select team that trained with the 2016 U.S. Olympic basketball team. He also represented the United States at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, where the team finished fourth.
