Andre Drummond

Drummond has three children, consisting of two daughters and a son. During his rookie season in the NBA, he had a brief relationship with writer and former actress Jennette McCurdy.

Outside of athletics, Drummond has served as an Ambassador for the Special Olympics since 2016. In 2025, he established and funded a specialized music development program in Middletown, Connecticut, in partnership with Berklee College of Music. Known as "Team Andre," the initiative trains instructors to teach individuals with physical and mental disabilities how to play musical instruments and participate in ensemble groups.

Andre Jamal Drummond was born in Mount Vernon, New York, to Jamaican parents. When he was seven years old, he moved with his mother, Christine Cameron, and his sister, Ariana, to Middletown, Connecticut. He attended Woodrow Wilson Middle School and began his high school career at Capital Preparatory Magnet School in Hartford, where he posted dominant scoring, rebounding, and shot-blocking averages across two seasons. He later transferred to St. Thomas More in Oakdale, Connecticut, repeating his sophomore year while recovering from a foot stress fracture. Alongside future NBA player Damion Lee, Drummond led St. Thomas More to the national prep championship in 2011 and emerged as one of the nation's top-ranked high school prospects.

After initially intending to take a postgraduate year, Drummond announced in August 2011 that he would attend the University of Connecticut. In his lone season with the Connecticut Huskies in 2011-12, he appeared in 34 games with 30 starts under head coach Jim Calhoun. He averaged 10.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per game, leading the team in field goal percentage, rebounding, and blocks while setting a program freshman record with 10 double-doubles. Following UConn's first-round exit in the NCAA tournament, Drummond declared for the 2012 NBA draft.

The Detroit Pistons drafted Drummond with the ninth overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft. He made an immediate impact, earning NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors in 2013 and winning MVP at the 2014 NBA Rising Stars Challenge after posting 30 points and 25 rebounds. Over the following seasons, Drummond established himself as an elite interior presence, frequently recording games with at least 20 points and 20 rebounds.

During the 2015-16 season, Drummond earned his first NBA All-Star selection and claimed his first league rebounding title, averaging 14.8 rebounds per game while helping Detroit secure its first playoff berth in seven years. In July 2016, he re-signed with the franchise on a five-year maximum contract. He earned a second All-Star selection in 2018 as an injury replacement for John Wall and led the NBA in rebounding in three consecutive seasons from 2018 through 2020. In 2017-18, he averaged 16.0 rebounds per game, becoming the first player since Dennis Rodman in 1997 to reach that benchmark. During his tenure in Detroit, he also surpassed Bill Laimbeer as the Pistons' all-time leader in career offensive rebounds.

In February 2020, Detroit traded Drummond to the Cleveland Cavaliers. After agreeing to a contract buyout with Cleveland in March 2021, he signed with the Los Angeles Lakers for the remainder of the 2020-21 campaign, starting all 21 regular-season games he played. Over the following seasons, he transitioned into key frontcourt and reserve roles across the league, signing with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2021 before being included in a multi-player trade to the Brooklyn Nets in February 2022 alongside Ben Simmons and Seth Curry for James Harden and Paul Millsap.

Drummond joined the Chicago Bulls on a two-year contract in July 2022, surpassing the 10,000 career rebound milestone in November 2023. He returned to the 76ers on a two-year contract in July 2024, and later signed with the New York Knicks in July 2026.

On the international stage, Drummond represented the United States at the 2010 FIBA Under-17 World Championship, winning a gold medal against Poland. He went on to win gold with the senior national team at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain, appearing in eight tournament games.

In addition to his athletic career, Drummond has ventured into film acting. His screen credits include roles in First Lady II: Maria's Revenge (2019), Chang Can Dunk (2023), and The Dobermans.
