Jude Law

Jude Law was married to actress Sadie Frost from 1997 until their divorce in 2003. They have three children, Rafferty, Iris and Rudy. Law also has a daughter, Sophia, with American model Samantha Burke, and a daughter with singer Catherine Harding.

Law has been married to psychologist Phillipa Coan since 2019. They have two children together. His younger sister, Natasha Law, is an illustrator and artist based in London.

Law began acting with the National Youth Music Theatre in 1987 and made his first television appearance in 1989 in The Tailor of Gloucester. He developed his early career on the London stage, appearing in productions including Pygmalion and Philip Ridley's The Fastest Clock in the Universe.

His performance in the 1994 West End production of Les Parents terribles, later transferred to Broadway under the title Indiscretions, brought him a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor and a Theatre World Award. He continued his theatre work with productions including 'Tis Pity She's a Whore, Hamlet, Anna Christie and Henry V.

Law gained wider attention through roles in Gattaca, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and Wilde, in which he played Lord Alfred Douglas. His international breakthrough came with Anthony Minghella's The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999), where he played Dickie Greenleaf opposite Matt Damon. The performance earned him the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and an Academy Award nomination in the same category.

He received a second Academy Award nomination for playing Inman in Minghella's Cold Mountain (2003). Other prominent films from this period included A.I. Artificial Intelligence, Enemy at the Gates, Road to Perdition, Closer, The Holiday, The Aviator, The Grand Budapest Hotel and Spy.

Law played Dr. John Watson opposite Robert Downey Jr. in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes (2009) and its sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011). He later portrayed Albus Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, Yon-Rogg in Captain Marvel, Captain Hook in Peter Pan & Wendy, and Jod Na Nawood in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.

In 2016, Law played the fictional American pontiff Lenny Belardo, also known as Pius XIII, in HBO's The Young Pope. He reprised the role in The New Pope in 2020 and also starred in the miniseries The Third Day. His later television work includes Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.

Law was a co-founder of the production company Natural Nylon with Sadie Frost, Jonny Lee Miller, Ewan McGregor and Sean Pertwee. He later produced projects including The Young Pope, The New Pope, The Nest and The Order. He also directed the film segment “A Bird in the Hand” for Tube Tales and appeared as a featured artist on Vampire Weekend's 2019 album Father of the Bride.

Law worked with filmmaker Jeremy Gilley on peace initiatives in Afghanistan in 2007 and 2008. Their documentary The Day After Peace premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and focused on activities connected with the International Day of Peace, including UNICEF-supported programmes.

He has supported causes including the Young Vic Theatre, UNICEF, Make Poverty History, Make-A-Wish, Breast Cancer Care and Education Africa. He also participated in protests against the rule of Alexander Lukashenko in Belarus and has campaigned against the fur trade.
