Julia Collin Davison is an American television host and actress known for co-hosting America's Test Kitchen and Cook's Country. She is also the host of Julia at Home and an executive editorial director for America's Test Kitchen.

Personal life

Julia Collin Davison has been married to Ian Davison for more than 20 years. The couple marked their 19th wedding anniversary in 2022 and have a daughter named Marta.

Ian is a chef and fishmonger. Julia has described cooking with Ian and Marta at home, connecting her family life with the food-centered work that defines her public career.

From psychology and philosophy to culinary arts

Julia attended the University at Albany, SUNY, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and philosophy. After graduating, she decided to develop a practical skill after working at a gourmet food market and applied to the Culinary Institute of America.

She graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 1996 with an associate degree in culinary arts. She then worked in Massachusetts and California's Napa Valley before joining Cook's Illustrated magazine as a test cook in 1999.

America's Test Kitchen and Cook's Country

Julia's work as a test cook expanded when Cook's Illustrated moved into television. She became an on-air test cook and an original cast member of America's Test Kitchen and Cook's Country, later becoming co-host of both PBS cooking programs alongside Bridget Lancaster and other members of the America's Test Kitchen team.

She also led recipe development for America's Test Kitchen cookbooks for more than a decade. As executive editorial director of the cookbook division, she shepherded 23 books to publication, including three that reached The New York Times Best Seller List.

Julia at Home and cookbook work

Julia and Bridget Lancaster released Cooking at Home with Bridget & Julia: The TV Hosts of America's Test Kitchen Share Their Favorite Recipes for Feeding Family and Friends in October 2017. The book brought together recipes associated with the two television hosts and their work at America's Test Kitchen.

In November 2021, Julia began hosting Julia at Home on Pluto TV. The program features her preparing test kitchen favorites and recipes from her cookbooks in her home kitchen. She has also appeared as a guest on Good Morning America, Live with Kelly & Ryan, The Today Show, Home & Family, and The Tamron Hall Show.

The Culinary Institute of America presented Julia with an Augie Award in 2018 for leadership, creativity, and depth of knowledge. That year, she was also inducted into the Disciples d'Escoffier culinary society.
