Lola Tung

Tung was born and raised in New York City. Her mother is of Chinese and Swedish descent, her father is of Eastern European descent, and her maternal grandmother is from Sweden. Her maternal grandfather was a Chinese immigrant from Ningbo.

She performed in middle-school productions of The Wizard of Oz and Little Shop of Horrors, and later took part in a high-school production of Rent. She graduated from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in 2020 before beginning studies at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Drama. After completing her first year, she took a break from college to film The Summer I Turned Pretty.

During her first year at Carnegie Mellon, Tung auditioned for the role of Isabel “Belly” Conklin in the Prime Video adaptation of Jenny Han’s bestselling trilogy. Her manager had first seen her perform in LaGuardia High School’s virtual senior acting showcase. The audition and chemistry-read process took place entirely over Zoom, and Tung was cast as the series lead in 2021.

The Summer I Turned Pretty was Tung’s first on-screen role, and she played Belly in every episode of the series from 2022 through 2025. She filmed alongside Christopher Briney and Gavin Casalegno, whom she described as supportive scene partners. The series was later renewed for a feature-film continuation, with Tung set to reprise Belly.

In February 2024, Tung made her Broadway debut as Eurydice in Hadestown, replacing Solea Pfeiffer for a limited engagement at the Walter Kerr Theatre. She starred opposite Jordan Fisher, who played Orpheus.

The role brought Tung her first award nominations, including a Favorite Replacement nomination at the 2024 Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards and a Favorite Broadway Debut nomination at the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards. She later reunited with Fisher for a workshop of a new musical.

Tung became the face of Coachtopia in April 2023, representing Coach New York products made with sustainable manufacturing techniques. She also appeared in a 2023 American Eagle Outfitters campaign with her The Summer I Turned Pretty co-stars Christopher Briney and Gavin Casalegno.

Later in 2023, she starred in Coachtopia’s winter holiday campaign, which focused on waste produced during the holiday season. In 2026, she was named a Coach global ambassador for eyewear, watches, and fragrance.
