Maxx Crosby

Crosby married Rachel Washburn in Nevada in 2023. The couple welcomed their daughter, Ella Rose, in October 2022.

In March 2020, Crosby entered rehabilitation for alcoholism. He later described himself as sober, and his recovery became part of his personal story alongside his rise as an NFL pass rusher.

Crosby attended Colleyville Heritage High School in Colleyville, Texas, after moving there during adolescence. The spelling of his first name reflects his unusually large birth weight, according to an explanation he gave about the extra "x" in Maxx.

He played for the Eastern Michigan Eagles from 2015 through 2018. Eastern Michigan was his only college football scholarship offer. He earned first-team All-MAC honors in 2017 and 2018, was inducted into the school's Ring of Honor in 2023, and had the playing field at Rynearson Stadium renamed Crosby Field in 2024.

The Oakland Raiders selected Crosby in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL draft with the 106th overall pick.

Crosby made his NFL debut against the Denver Broncos in 2019. As a rookie, he recorded 10 sacks, 47 total tackles, four passes defended, and four forced fumbles. Against the Cincinnati Bengals that season, he recorded four sacks, including a strip sack, setting the Raiders' rookie single-game franchise record for sacks.

His 2021 season brought his first Pro Bowl selection and second-team All-Pro recognition. He recorded career bests at the time in passes defended and quarterback hits, and he earned three AFC Defensive Player of the Week awards across his career through that season.

Crosby produced 12.5 sacks and an NFL-leading 22 tackles for loss in 2022. He followed that with 14.5 sacks and 23 tackles for loss in 2023, tying for the league lead in the latter category. He also earned Pro Bowl honors in both seasons.

An ankle injury limited Crosby in 2024 and ended his season after he underwent surgery. He still finished the season tied with T. J. Watt for the NFL lead in tackles for loss. In 2025, Crosby recorded 10 sacks, 73 tackles, two forced fumbles, six passes defended, and his first career interception through 15 starts, earning his fifth consecutive Pro Bowl selection.

In 2025, Crosby became the assistant general manager of the Eastern Michigan football program while remaining an active NFL player. The appointment made him the first active NFL player to hold a college football personnel position.

The role connected Crosby with the program where he played from 2015 through 2018 and extended his involvement with Eastern Michigan beyond his playing career.

In March 2026, the Las Vegas Raiders and Baltimore Ravens agreed to a trade that would have sent Crosby to Baltimore in exchange for first-round selections in the 2026 and 2027 NFL drafts. Baltimore withdrew from the agreement after Crosby failed his physical, and the trade was canceled before the NFL's new league year.

Crosby subsequently returned to the Raiders. The failed transaction became a notable episode in his career because it briefly placed him in Baltimore before the medical concerns ended the deal.
