Piper Perabo is an American actress known for playing Violet Sanford in Coyote Ugly and CIA agent Annie Walker in Covert Affairs. She has also appeared in films including Lost and Delirious, The Prestige, Looper, and Angel Has Fallen, as well as television series such as Yellowstone and Billions.

Personal life

Perabo has been married to director and writer Stephen Kay since 2014. They married in New York City after becoming engaged in 2013, and Perabo is stepmother to Kay's daughter, Lilli Kay.

Perabo has been close friends with actress Lena Headey since they worked together in The Cave and Imagine Me & You. She is also a part owner of Employees Only, a Prohibition-themed bar in New York City's West Village, and Jack's Wife Freda, a restaurant in SoHo.

Breakthrough with *Coyote Ugly* and independent films

Perabo moved to New York after graduating from Ohio University and worked as a waitress while studying acting at the La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club. She was cast in her first feature film, Whiteboyz, about a month after moving to the city. Before she graduated from college, casting director Denise Fitzgerald noticed her at an audition and helped her find an agent.

Her breakthrough came with the 2000 romantic musical comedy-drama Coyote Ugly, in which she played Violet "Jersey" Sanford. She won the MTV Movie Award for Best Music Moment for the film's performance of "One Way or Another" and later focused on independent films. Her performance as Pauline "Paulie" Oster in Lost and Delirious received critical acclaim, with the Chicago Tribune calling it her breakout performance.

Perabo subsequently played Nora Baker in Cheaper by the Dozen and its sequel, and appeared in The Prestige, Because I Said So, Imagine Me & You, Beverly Hills Chihuahua, and The Lazarus Project. In The Prestige, she acted alongside Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale, while Imagine Me & You reunited her with Lena Headey.

*Covert Affairs*

In 2010, Perabo began starring as CIA field agent Annie Walker in the USA Network spy drama Covert Affairs. The series ran for five seasons from 2010 to 2014, and Perabo appeared in all five seasons as its lead character.

Her performance earned a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series. She also won a Gracie Award for Outstanding Female Actor in a Breakthrough Role and served as a producer on 31 episodes of the series.

Later film and television roles

Perabo played Suzie in Rian Johnson's science-fiction thriller Looper, alongside Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Emily Blunt, and Jeff Daniels. Her later film roles included Michelle in Into the Grizzly Maze, Laura in Black Butterfly, Leah Banning in Angel Has Fallen, and Angela in the dark comedy Spontaneous.

On television, she played Julia George in the ABC legal drama Notorious and Sara in the Netflix comedy series Turn Up Charlie. She later appeared as Linda Craft in Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, Paula Clark in The Big Leap, Summer Higgins in Yellowstone, and Andy Salter in Billions. She played Juno Lund in Butterfly and Tina in the bilingual independent film Peak Everything.

Stage work and activism

Perabo made her off-Broadway debut in Neil LaBute's play Reasons to Be Pretty in 2008 and later appeared in Lost Girls. Reasons to Be Pretty was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play.

Beyond acting, Perabo has advocated for LGBT rights and women's political leadership. She is an advisory board member of VoteRunLead and The Hometown Project, and has worked as a Voice for the International Rescue Committee to raise awareness of refugee displacement. She was arrested during protests against Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court confirmation hearing in 2018 and during a climate change protest with Jane Fonda in 2019.
