Rachel Sennott

Rachel Anne Sennott was born on September 19, 1995, in Simsbury, Connecticut. She is the daughter of Donna and Jack Sennott and has four siblings. She is of Irish and Italian descent and was raised Catholic.

Sennott graduated from Simsbury High School in 2014. She studied acting at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, graduating from college in 2017.

Sennott became interested in comedy during her freshman year of college after attending an open mic night on a date. She continued performing at open mic nights while acting in student films, including the 2017 short film version of Emma Seligman's Shiva Baby, in which she played Danielle. She later reprised the role in the feature adaptation.

In 2018, Sennott began writing and posting short jokes on Twitter while developing the comedy shows Puke Fest and Ur Gonna Slp Rlly Well Tonight. Her alt-comedy persona satirized dating, the economy, Los Angeles movie culture, and other aspects of millennial life. Puke Fest, which combined stand-up with a drinking game, moved to Instagram Live during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sennott was named one of the six best comedians in New York City's alt-comedy scene by both Time Out New York and Pop Dust in 2019. She appeared on HBO's High Maintenance and played Jackie Raines on Call Your Mother. She also co-developed the Comedy Central series Ayo and Rachel Are Single and Taking the Stage with Ayo Edebiri.

Sennott appeared in the 2020 films Tahara and Shiva Baby. Her performance as Danielle in Shiva Baby earned her the Rising Star award at the Philadelphia Jewish Film Festival and a Gotham Award nomination for Breakthrough Actor. The film was adapted from Emma Seligman's earlier short film, with Sennott returning to the lead role.

In 2022, Sennott played Alice in the A24 comedy horror film Bodies Bodies Bodies, a performance that was frequently singled out by critics. She followed it with roles in Susie Searches and the drama I Used to Be Funny, in which she played Sam Cowell.

Sennott reunited with Emma Seligman to co-write and star in the 2023 teen comedy Bottoms, appearing opposite Ayo Edebiri as PJ. She also served as an executive producer on the film. Her screenplay collaboration with Seligman earned the pair an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Screenplay. Sennott additionally appeared in Finally Dawn, HBO's The Idol, and the 2024 film Saturday Night as Rosie Shuster.

Sennott expanded into television creation with I Love LA, an HBO comedy series in which she stars as Maia Simsbury. She created the series, wrote for it, and served as a director and executive producer. The show follows a codependent group of friends who reunite after spending time apart, and its cast includes Odessa A'zion and Josh Hutcherson.

She co-starred in Katarina Zhu's drama film Bunnylovr, which premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, and appeared in Charli XCX's music video for "360". Sennott also co-created the Netflix crime comedy series Big Mistakes with Dan Levy and served as a writer and executive producer. She is attached as a co-writer of a biographical film about Heidi Fleiss.
