Rihanna began dating American rapper A$AP Rocky in 2020. The couple welcomed their first son, RZA Athelston Mayers, in May 2022. During her performance at the Super Bowl halftime show in 2023, she revealed she was expecting their second child, giving birth to a son named Riot Rose Mayers in August 2023. In September 2025, the couple welcomed their third child, Rocki Irish Mayers.

Earlier in her career, Rihanna had a high-profile relationship with R&B singer Chris Brown. Robyn Rihanna Fenty was born on February 20, 1988, in St. Michael parish, Barbados, to Monica Braithwaite, an accountant, and Ronald Fenty, a warehouse supervisor. She grew up in a three-bedroom bungalow in Bridgetown alongside two younger brothers, Rorrey and Rajad, and sold clothing with her father on a street stall. During her childhood, she was exposed to Caribbean styles such as reggae alongside American hip-hop and R&B, and she began singing at age seven.
