Allie Sherlock

Allie Sherlock was born in Cork, Ireland, and grew up in Douglas. Her mother died when Sherlock was nine years old, an experience that later influenced her songwriting, including the song "The Night Before."

Sherlock left primary school in 2016 after experiencing severe bullying and continued her education through homeschooling. She began busking in Cork after persuading her father, Mark, to let her perform in public. From the age of 11, she performed almost weekly on Grafton Street in Dublin, where her father also worked as her music manager and filmed her videos.

Sherlock's YouTube channel was created in 2014, and she began posting song covers after learning guitar in 2015. Her performance of Ed Sheeran's "Supermarket Flowers," dedicated to her mother, became a viral video and helped establish her online audience. She became known for combining vocals with guitar arrangements during busking performances and videos shared across YouTube and social media.

In 2017, Sherlock performed at the Miss Universe Ireland pageant. In early 2018, she appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where she performed her arrangement of Adele's "A Million Years Ago." She also performed Ed Sheeran's "Perfect" on RTÉ One's The Ray D'Arcy Show.

Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic invited Sherlock and her father to Los Angeles after seeing one of her videos. Sherlock later signed a five-year contract with Patriot Records, the label owned by Tedder. In March 2020, she supported OneRepublic during concerts in Paris, Cologne, Utrecht, and London.

Her live work has included performances at Cork Opera House, Cyprus Avenue in Cork, the Olympia Theatre in Dublin, and the Elbphilharmonie Concert Hall in Hamburg. She also performed with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and joined the collective Irish Women in Harmony for a recording of "Dreams" in aid of a domestic abuse charity.

Alongside her cover performances, Sherlock writes and records original songs. Her early originals include "Hero," which focuses on self-confidence, "Locked Inside," which reflects on the COVID-19 quarantine period, "Without You," and "Leave Me With a Decent Goodbye."

Sherlock's song "How Love Works" was released in 2024. The song was written with Ella Henderson and Ollie Green and draws on feelings of isolation and disillusionment connected with teenage romance. She also wrote "Ex Friend," a song about the breakdown of a friendship after a romantic situation.

Her album Allie, released in April 2023, contains 11 cover songs. Her later singles include "Stay," "Nobody Gets Me," "Stargazing," "The Greatest," and "I Don't Need Saving."
