Charli D'Amelio is an American dancer and TikTok star known for popularizing the viral "Renegade" dance and becoming one of TikTok's most-followed creators. She later expanded into television, film, music, business, and live performance, including winning season 31 of Dancing with the Stars and joining the Broadway musical & Juliet.
Personal life
D'Amelio is the daughter of Marc D'Amelio and Heidi D'Amelio and the younger sister of Dixie D'Amelio, who is also a social media personality. She began dancing at age three and trained as a competitive dancer for more than a decade. She attended the King School in Stamford, Connecticut, before switching to virtual schooling after her social media popularity grew.
D'Amelio has spoken publicly about an eating disorder, body image, body dysmorphia, and the effects of online body shaming. She was in a relationship with Chase Hudson from December 2019 to April 2020 and was later in a relationship with Landon Barker from 2022 to February 2024.
Rise to prominence on TikTok
D'Amelio began posting dance videos on TikTok in 2019. Her first video to gain significant attention was a duet with the user Move With Joy, and she gained further exposure in October 2019 through videos performing the "Renegade" dance to K Camp's song "Lottery". The dance became a major trend, although Jalaiah Harmon was later identified as its original choreographer. D'Amelio subsequently danced with Harmon and began regularly crediting the creators of the dances she performed.
She joined the collaborative TikTok group The Hype House in 2019 alongside Dixie D'Amelio and other creators, then left the group with her sister in May 2020. In March 2020, D'Amelio surpassed Loren Gray to become TikTok's most-followed creator. She became the first user to reach 50 million followers and the first to reach 100 million followers, and received a Guinness World Records title for her TikTok following.

D'Amelio made her feature-film debut as the voice of Tinker in the animated film StarDog and TurboCat. She later appeared as herself in television specials including The Disney Family Singalong, Graduate Together: America Honors the High School Class of 2020, and Step Into...The Movies with Derek and Julianne Hough. She also guest-voiced herself in an episode of The Simpsons.

D'Amelio and Dixie D'Amelio partnered with UNICEF on an anti-bullying campaign in 2020. She also participated in the #DistanceDance campaign with Procter & Gamble to encourage social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, donated to Norwalk Hospital, and partnered with TikTok on a donation to the American Dance Movement.
