Gonzalez married Laura Fuechsl on July 1, 2017. The couple met during high school in Illinois, beginning their relationship when Gonzalez was 16 and Fuechsl was 17. Fuechsl has occasionally appeared in his YouTube videos and collaborative sketches over the years.

In May 2023, Gonzalez announced that he and Fuechsl were expecting their first child. Their first son was born in September 2023, and they welcomed a second son in 2025. Gonzalez also manages reactive arthritis, a rare autoimmune condition causing joint inflammation and pain that occasionally affects his mobility.

Daniel James Gonzalez was born on June 12, 1994, in Chicago, Illinois, and was raised primarily in the nearby suburb of Wheaton. During his childhood, he lived abroad in England for two years when he was eight or nine years old. He grew up with an older brother, Matt, and a younger sister.

Gonzalez began editing videos in the seventh grade and created comedy skits with friends for his school while attending Wheaton North High School. Following high school, he enrolled at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, graduating in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science degree in computational media.

Gonzalez joined the short-form video platform Vine in late 2013 during his sophomore year of college, inspired after watching posts by comedian Bo Burnham. His first upload was titled "Target headphones like what up." By early 2014, he began distinguishing his comedy by integrating custom visual effects and green-screen compositing into his six-second clips, which was uncommon on the platform at the time.

One of his most viral sketches involved digitally superimposing sneakers onto dinosaurs in footage from Jurassic Park. In 2016, Gonzalez was cast in the Vine-produced original miniseries Camp Unplug, through which he met fellow creator Drew Gooden. By the time Vine ceased operations in January 2017, Gonzalez had amassed approximately 2.9 million followers on the platform.

Following the shutdown of Vine, Gonzalez transitioned full-time to YouTube, where he had launched a channel in 2014. He established a signature style centered on comedic commentary, cultural critiques, and reactions to bizarre internet trends, low-budget cinema, social media influencers, and DIY craft channels. His channel experienced rapid expansion in 2018 following his video "Trying Troom Troom's Awful Pranks," which propelled his channel from under 700,000 subscribers to over 1.2 million in a single month.

Gonzalez operates a secondary channel titled 2 Danny 2 Furious, named after the film 2 Fast 2 Furious, where he publishes unscripted videos, subreddit reviews, and informal discussions. He jokingly refers to his fanbase as a singular entity named "Greg," a moniker he chose from an article listing strong baby names, developing an ongoing running gag that his fans constitute an unstoppable online army. His commentary work earned multiple Streamy Award nominations, culminating in a win for the Commentary category in 2022.

A major element of Gonzalez's career involves collaborative projects with fellow creators Drew Gooden and Kurtis Conner. Fans frequently drew humorous comparisons between Gonzalez and Gooden due to similarities in their appearance and commentary styles, leading the pair to adopt the confusion as an ongoing meta-joke.

In 2019, Gonzalez and Gooden capitalized on the joke by launching the "We Are Two Different People Tour," a 29-date live theatrical comedy show across the United States featuring sketches, stand-up, live musical numbers, and visual effects, with Kurtis Conner serving as the opening act. To promote the tour, Gonzalez and Gooden released the collaborative parody single "We Are Not the Same Person."

Alongside his video essays and commentary, Gonzalez has produced a wide catalog of comedic rap and pop parody songs, often tied to topics discussed in his videos. In April 2019, he released his debut comedy EP, Bump This, which reached number one on the iTunes comedy chart and peaked at number two on the Billboard Comedy Albums chart.

Gonzalez frequently performs under satirical musical alter egos. Under the pseudonym Young Face, a moniker referencing comments about his youthful appearance, he released tracks such as "Dab on the Haters" and "Hop Out the Whip." In 2020, he established another fictional musical persona named Fox Szn, whose character name is Ned Flames, releasing tracks including "Circus," "Nepo Baby," and "Last Night" featuring Conner's alter ego 3Drinkz.
