Ione Skye

Skye is the daughter of folk singer-songwriter Donovan and model Enid Karl. She is the younger sister of singer Donovan Leitch. Her father is Scottish-born with some Irish ancestry, while her American mother was raised in the Bronx and is Jewish. Skye grew up primarily in Los Angeles and San Francisco and attended Immaculate Heart High School and Hollywood High School.

Skye married Adam Horovitz, the Beastie Boys rapper known as Ad-Rock, in 1992. Their marriage ended in divorce. She later had a relationship with furniture designer David Netto, with whom she had a daughter, Kate Skye Netto, in December 2001.

Skye became engaged to Australian musician Ben Lee in 2008, and they married in India on December 29 of that year. They have a daughter, Goldie Priya Lee, born in September 2009. Skye has also discussed her struggles with alcoholism and other drug use, and her 2025 memoir Say Everything addresses parts of her relationships and personal history.

Skye made her film debut as Clarissa in the thriller River's Edge (1986). She played the title character in The Rachel Papers (1989) before gaining broader recognition as Diane Court in Say Anything..., Cameron Crowe's feature-film directorial debut.

Her work during the 1990s included Gas Food Lodging, Wayne's World, Guncrazy, Four Rooms, and One Night Stand. She played Trudi in Gas Food Lodging, Elyse in Wayne's World, and Eva in the segment "The Missing Ingredient" from Four Rooms. She later appeared as Molly in Fever Pitch and had a small role as Kathleen Johns in David Fincher's Zodiac (2007).

Skye played Eleanor Grey in the television series Covington Cross and later took regular, recurring, and guest roles in programs including The Twilight Zone, Private Practice, Arrested Development, Camping, Good Girls, La Brea, and Barons. She played Mrs. Veal in three episodes of Arrested Development, Gayle Meyer in five episodes of Good Girls, and Jessica Harris in La Brea.

Alongside acting, Skye paints and sells her work. She has shown paintings in Tokyo and Los Angeles and has cited comic book artist Daniel Clowes as an influence. She wrote the children's book My Yiddish Vacation, published in 2014, and directed the music video for Against Me!'s song "333" in 2016. VH1 ranked her 84th on its 2006 list of the "100 Greatest Teen Stars."
