Beyoncé married rapper and music mogul Jay-Z on April 4, 2008, in a private ceremony in New York City after several years of dating and high-profile musical collaborations. The couple announced they were expecting their first child at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, and their daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, was born in January 2012 at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York.

In February 2017, Beyoncé announced she was expecting twins in an Instagram post that became the most-liked photo on the platform that year. She gave birth to twins, daughter Rumi and son Sir, in June 2017. Outside of music and family life, Beyoncé has pursued creative interests including painting, fashion design, scriptwriting, and beekeeping.

Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Beyoncé Giselle Knowles began performing in local talent shows as a child, winning 35 consecutive competitions. Her vocal and dance talents led her parents, Mathew and Tina Knowles, to enroll her in specialized arts schooling and dance training. In the early 1990s, she formed a performing group called Girl's Tyme alongside Kelly Rowland and LaTavia Roberson. Following an appearance on the television competition Star Search, her father quit his corporate career to manage the act full-time, and Tina Knowles began designing and styling the group's performance wardrobes.

Signed to Columbia Records in 1997 under the name Destiny's Child, the group released their self-titled debut in 1998, scoring their breakthrough hit with "No, No, No." Their 1999 follow-up, The Writing's on the Wall, sold millions of copies worldwide and yielded chart-topping singles such as "Bills, Bills, Bills" and "Say My Name." Following lineup changes that established the core trio of Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams, the group released the multi-platinum album Survivor (2001) and their final studio project, Destiny Fulfilled (2004), before formally disbanding in 2005 to pursue individual careers.

Beyoncé established her solo career in 2003 with the release of Dangerously in Love, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and produced the hit singles "Crazy in Love" and "Baby Boy." The album earned five Grammy Awards in a single night. She followed this success with B'Day (2006), released on her twenty-fifth birthday, which featured international hits such as "Irreplaceable" and "Déjà Vu."

In 2008, she released the double album I Am... Sasha Fierce, introducing her performance alter ego and delivering global hits including "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" and "Halo." Her fourth studio album, 4 (2011), marked a creative transition as she took direct control of her management and business ventures, producing favorites like "Love on Top" and "Run the World (Girls)."

In December 2013, Beyoncé revolutionized music industry release strategies by unexpectedly dropping her self-titled visual album Beyoncé with no prior promotion, accompanied by music videos for every track. The project debuted at number one and broke digital sales records on iTunes. She expanded on the visual format in 2016 with Lemonade, a conceptual album and hour-long television special exploring themes of infidelity, resilience, and Black womanhood.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Beyoncé conceived an ambitious three-act musical trilogy exploring Black musical history. The first installment, Renaissance (2022), celebrated house music and disco culture to widespread critical acclaim. The second act, Cowboy Carter (2024), delved into country and Americana music, featuring collaborations with legacy artists such as Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, and Linda Martell, and yielding the chart-topping single "Texas Hold 'Em."

Beyoncé has also built a substantial screen acting career. She made her theatrical feature debut in the 2002 comedy Austin Powers in Goldmember, followed by roles in The Fighting Temptations (2003) and The Pink Panther (2006). In 2006, she earned acclaim for her performance as Deena Jones in the musical drama Dreamgirls, alongside Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Hudson.

In 2019, she voiced Nala in Disney's photorealistic remake of The Lion King and curated its companion project The Lion King: The Gift, which served as the foundation for her 2020 visual film Black Is King.

Beyoncé is the most-awarded and most-nominated artist in Grammy history, having accumulated 35 Grammy Awards from 99 nominations across her group and solo output. In 2010, she set a record for the most Grammy wins by a female artist in a single evening with six trophies. In 2023, she surpassed conductor Georg Solti to become the all-time leader in total Grammy wins.

Her live performances have also broken records, including her 2013 Super Bowl halftime show and her 2018 Coachella performance, which celebrated historically Black colleges and universities and became the most-watched live Coachella set on YouTube.
