Mina Starsiak Hawk spent eight seasons rebuilding historic Indianapolis neighborhoods on HGTV's Good Bones alongside her mother, Karen Laine. She expanded her television career through competition series like Rock the Block and the spinoff Good Bones: Risky Business. She also works as a licensed real estate agent and author.

Personal life

Starsiak met Stephen Hawk on Facebook in 2013, and they went on their first date at a baseball game. He proposed on the Indianapolis Colts practice field. They married on June 11, 2016, in Indianapolis.

Motherhood followed soon after. In December 2017, Starsiak fostered her two-year-old niece Julie. The experience made her want to build her own family. She and Hawk welcomed their son, Jack Richard Hawk, on August 9, 2018. She faced infertility challenges before having their daughter, Charlotte Drew Hawk, in September 2020.

Her sister-in-law, Stefanie Hawk, died unexpectedly in March 2020. Starsiak grew up in a blended family with five siblings and half-siblings, including her longtime renovation partner Tad Starsiak.

Two Chicks and a Hammer and Good Bones

Starsiak studied business and sociology at the University of Indiana. She began renovating homes after buying and remodeling her first house in 2008. She worked as a waitress at the time.

Her mother, Karen Laine, was an attorney. Together they formed Two Chicks and a Hammer, Inc., aiming to revitalize neglected houses across Indianapolis. Starsiak earned a real estate license to support the enterprise. They renovated local houses for seven years before television producers scouted them.

HGTV launched Good Bones in 2016. The series followed Starsiak and Laine through full structural remodels and demolition projects. Other family members joined the crew. Her half-brother Tad led demolition, while former step-father Lenny assisted with construction. The series ran for eight seasons, leading to the 2022 spinoff Good Bones: Risky Business, where Starsiak renovated a large commercial property.

Retail and writing

Starsiak appeared across several HGTV productions outside her main show. She competed on Rock the Block, also serving as a guest judge. Other appearances include A Very Brady Renovation, Battle on the Beach, and House Hunters: All Stars.

She expanded into retail in 2020. She opened Two Chicks District Co., an Indianapolis storefront selling home furnishings and decor. That same year, she published her debut children's book, Built Together.
