Sofia Isella

Sofia Isella Miranda was born in Los Angeles, California. She began playing violin at the age of three, initially using a cardboard box with a ruler attached as her instrument, and wrote her first song lyrics at eight. She received classical violin training, attended the Colburn School, and was homeschooled.

Her childhood involved frequent moves with her family, including time in Taiwan, Canada, Louisiana, and New Mexico. Her father, filmmaker Claudio Miranda, and her mother, writer Kelli Bean, later settled with her in Burleigh Heads on Australia's Gold Coast in 2020. Isella returned to Los Angeles by mid-2024.

Isella released her first extended play, I'm Not Yours, in 2020. The project primarily contained songs she had written at 14 and 15, and she performed locally after moving to Australia. Her 2023 single "Hot Gum" became a major streaming success, reaching 10 million streams.

After building an audience on TikTok, Isella opened for Melanie Martinez and Tom Odell in late 2023 and early 2024. She also performed on Martinez's Trilogy Tour and opened for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour in 2024. Her later releases included the EPs I Can Be Your Mother in 2024, I'm camera . in 2025, and Something is a shell . in 2026, the last of which she produced with Mr Hudson.

Isella began her first world tour, You'll Understand, Dick, in 2025, performing in the United States, Europe, and Australia. The tour ended in Sydney in December 2025, after which she began the Her Desire, the Nemesis tour in Brussels in May 2026. She won the Australian Gold Coast Music Award for Musician of the Year in 2022.

Isella's music has been described as alternative pop, art rock, dark pop, art pop, industrial, gothic pop, and indie pop, with elements of post-punk, spoken word, and classical music. She plays violin, piano, guitar, banjo, and ukulele, and her songs frequently address womanhood, misogyny, religion, and porn.

She has identified Trent Reznor, Beck, Taylor Swift, Sylvia Plath, Margaret Atwood, Mona Awad, and Anne Sexton as influences. Her visual style often includes baggy, uncolored clothing and performances in which she covers herself with dirt and muck. Her album artwork uses macabre imagery, while her music videos draw on horror-film aesthetics and her social media presentation uses black, white, and sepia tones.
