Steve Harvey

Steve Harvey has been married to Marjorie Bridges since 2007. He was previously married to Marcia Harvey from 1981 to 1994 and Mary Shackelford from 1996 to 2005.

He has seven children. With Marcia, he has twin daughters Brandi and Karli and a son, Broderick Harvey Jr. With Mary, he has a son, Wynton. He adopted Marjorie's three children, Morgan, Jason, and Lori, after their marriage.

Harvey performed his first stand-up routine at Cleveland's Hilarities Comedy Club on October 8, 1985. Before establishing himself in comedy, he worked as an insurance salesman, boxer, autoworker, carpet cleaner, and mailman. During the late 1980s, he experienced a period of homelessness that lasted three years while pursuing comedy.

His television breakthrough came after he became a finalist in the Johnnie Walker National Comedy Search in 1990 and took over as host of It's Showtime at the Apollo. He starred as Steve Hightower in The Steve Harvey Show, which ran from 1996 to 2002, and appeared with Cedric the Entertainer, D.L. Hughley, and Bernie Mac on the Kings of Comedy Tour. The tour was adapted into Spike Lee's 2000 film The Original Kings of Comedy.

Harvey ended his stand-up career with a final performance in Las Vegas in 2012. He has also acted in films including The Fighting Temptations, Love Don't Cost a Thing, Johnson Family Vacation, You Got Served, and Racing Stripes.

Harvey began hosting Family Feud in 2010 and later became the host of Celebrity Family Feud. His tenure made him the longest-serving host in the history of Family Feud. He also hosted The Steve Harvey Morning Show, the syndicated talk shows Steve Harvey and Steve, and the comedy-variety series Little Big Shots.

He hosted the Miss Universe competition beginning in 2015 and returned for several later editions. During the 2015 pageant, he initially announced Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutiérrez, as the winner before correcting the result and naming Miss Philippines, Pia Wurtzbach. His later television work included Steve on Watch and the arbitration-based court comedy Judge Steve Harvey, which premiered in 2022.

Harvey's radio program helped develop the relationship and self-help advice that became central to his writing. His 2009 book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man became a best seller and inspired the 2012 film Think Like a Man. He also wrote Straight Talk, No Chaser, Act Like a Success, and Jump: Take the Leap of Faith to Achieve Your Life of Abundance.

In 2017, Harvey founded Steve Harvey Global, an entertainment company that includes his production company East 112 and other ventures. The organization also holds rights for international versions of Family Feud, including Family Feud Africa. He and Marjorie Harvey founded The Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation, which provides youth outreach and mentoring, including programs for fatherless children and educational support.

Harvey has received seven Daytime Emmy Awards, two Marconi Awards, and 14 NAACP Image Awards. His NAACP honors include four consecutive Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series awards for The Steve Harvey Show from 1999 through 2002, as well as the 2001 Entertainer of the Year award.

He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2013 and was inducted into the National Association of Broadcasters Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2014. Alabama State University awarded him an honorary doctorate in 2016, and Cleveland renamed East 112th Street Steve Harvey Way in 2015.
