Gloria Trevi

Gloria Trevi has been married to lawyer Armando Gómez since 2009. They have three children, including sons Miguel and Ángel Gabriel and a daughter named Ana.

Trevi lives in McAllen, Texas, with Gómez and their sons. She gave birth to Ángel Gabriel in Brasília, Brazil, on February 18, 2002, while she was in prison.

Trevi began writing poetry at five and studied ballet and piano before learning to play the drums. She moved to Mexico City as a young teenager to pursue entertainment, supporting herself by singing and dancing in the street, teaching aerobics, and working at a taco stand. In 1985, she briefly joined the girl group Boquitas Pintadas.

Her solo debut, ¿Qué Hago Aquí?, arrived in 1989 and produced the Latin American number-one hit "Dr. Psiquiatra." She followed it with Tu Ángel de la Guarda in 1991, whose single "Pelo Suelto" became a major success across Latin America and Spain. Her later 1990s albums Me Siento Tan Sola, Más Turbada Que Nunca, and Si Me Llevas Contigo established her as a pop icon, while songs such as "Zapatos Viejos," "El Recuento de los Daños," and "La Papa Sin Catsup" expanded her international audience.

Trevi's lyrics addressed religion, prostitution, drug trafficking, hunger, class conflict, sexism, and war. Her confrontational stage persona challenged expectations of female submissiveness and inspired young Latin American fans to imitate her style, earning her the nicknames "The Madonna of Mexico" and "La Atrevida."

In the late 1990s, Trevi's career was overshadowed by allegations involving her former manager and producer Sergio Andrade. Mexican authorities accused Trevi, Andrade, and María Raquenel Portillo, also known as Mary Boquitas, of crimes including corruption of minors, sexual abuse, and kidnapping. The group was arrested in Brazil in January 2000 after moving through several countries, and Trevi spent more than four years in detention in Brazil and Mexico.

Trevi was acquitted by a Mexican court in 2004 for lack of evidence, while Andrade was convicted. She returned to recording with Cómo Nace el Universo in 2004 and resumed touring with the Trevolución tour in 2005. Her comeback continued with Una Rosa Blu, Gloria, De Película, and El Amor, the latter reaching the top of the Billboard album sales chart in the United States.

Trevi later filed a sexual-abuse lawsuit against Andrade in 2023. The legal history surrounding the former manager has also been dramatized in the films Gloria and the television series Gloria Trevi: Ellas soy yo.

Trevi released El Amor in 2015 as a concept album built around Latin American love ballads, combining covers with original songs. She presented the project through the alter egos Mr. Trevi and Mrs. Gloria and supported it with the El Amor World Tour across the United States, Spain, Peru, Chile, Mexico, and other Latin American countries.

In 2017, she collaborated with Alejandra Guzmán on the album Versus. The singers also embarked on the Versus World Tour, which included performances in the United States, Mexico, South America, and Canada and concluded at the Hollywood Bowl in 2018.

Trevi received the BMI Latin President's Award in 2016 and was inducted into the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2018. Her later releases include Diosa de la Noche, Isla Divina, the Mi Soundtrack albums, and El Vuelo.

Trevi made her film debut in Pelo Suelto in 1991 and starred in Zapatos Viejos in 1993 and Una papa sin catsup in 1995. Zapatos Viejos was built around the success of her song of the same name, while Una papa sin catsup featured her in the roles of Gloria and La Greñas.

Her television work includes the lead role of Aurora Valencia in the telenovela Libre para amarte, in which she appeared for 107 episodes. She also appeared in Pequeños gigantes, The House of Flowers, Drag Race España, and Gloria Trevi: Ellas soy yo.
