Gracie Abrams

Abrams was in a relationship with songwriter and producer Blake Slatkin from 2017 to 2022. She has been in a relationship with Irish actor Paul Mescal since 2024.

Gracie Madigan Abrams was raised in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles. She is the daughter of filmmaker J. J. Abrams and film and television producer Katie McGrath, and has two brothers, Henry Abrams and August Abrams. Her paternal heritage is Ashkenazi Jewish, while her maternal background is Irish Catholic.

Abrams began writing songs at the age of eight. She took piano lessons while growing up and taught herself guitar by practicing with chord charts. She attended The Archer School for Girls and graduated in 2018 before studying international relations at Barnard College. She took a break from college after her first year to pursue music.

Abrams signed with Interscope Records in 2019 and released her debut single, "Mean It," that October. Her first extended play, Minor, followed in July 2020. The project included "I Miss You, I'm Sorry" and "21," and featured production from Joel Little and Blake Slatkin. Its introspective writing and bedroom-pop sound established the emotional style associated with her early work.

In 2021, Abrams released the standalone single "Mess It Up," collaborated with Benny Blanco on "Unlearn," and issued her second EP, This Is What It Feels Like. The EP included "Feels Like" and "Rockland," the latter created with Aaron Dessner. In 2022, she supported Olivia Rodrigo on the Sour Tour and completed the This Is What It Feels Like Tour.

Abrams released her debut studio album, Good Riddance, on February 24, 2023, followed by a deluxe edition later that year. The album explored accountability, heartbreak, and self-reflection, with Aaron Dessner serving as a major collaborator and producer. It earned Abrams a nomination for Best New Artist at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards.

She also collaborated with Noah Kahan on a remix of "Everywhere, Everything," which became her first entry on the US Billboard Hot 100. Abrams supported the album with the Good Riddance Tour and performed as an opening act on selected dates of Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour.

Abrams released her second studio album, The Secret of Us, on June 21, 2024. The album debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 and included the singles "Risk," "Close to You," and "I Love You, I'm Sorry." Its deluxe edition added "That's So True," which reached number four on the Billboard Global 200 and number six on the US Billboard Hot 100.

The album also featured "Us," a collaboration with Taylor Swift. The song received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Abrams supported the project with the Secret of Us Tour, which continued internationally through 2025.

Abrams won Songwriter of the Year at the 2025 Billboard Women in Music ceremony and New Artist of the Year at the 2025 American Music Awards. She was also included on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list for music and received recognition at the iHeartRadio Music Awards and Swiss Music Awards.

Her songwriting influences include Taylor Swift, Joni Mitchell, Lorde, Phoebe Bridgers, Robyn, Bon Iver, and Simon & Garfunkel. She has described her music as inseparable from her personal views and has supported abortion funds, Artists4Ceasefire, and Everytown for Gun Safety. In 2026, she was announced as part of the cast of the A24 film Please, written and directed by Halina Reijn, marking her planned acting debut.
