Lisa Marie Presley

Lisa Marie Presley was married four times. She married musician Danny Keough in 1988, Michael Jackson in 1994, actor Nicolas Cage in 2002, and guitarist and producer Michael Lockwood in 2006. Her marriages to Keough, Jackson, Cage, and Lockwood ended in divorce in 1994, 1996, 2004, and 2021, respectively.

Presley had four children. She had Riley Keough and Benjamin Keough with Danny Keough, and twin daughters Harper Vivienne Ann Lockwood and Finley Aaron Love Lockwood with Michael Lockwood. She remained close friends with Danny Keough after their divorce, and he later played bass in her band and served as a musical mentor.

Presley publicly discussed her struggles with substance abuse and wrote that she became dependent on opioids after receiving them following the birth of her twin daughters. Her son Benjamin died by suicide in 2020, a loss that deeply affected her.

Presley released her debut album, To Whom It May Concern, on April 8, 2003. The album reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. She wrote all of the lyrics except for "The Road Between," which she co-wrote with Gus Black, and co-wrote every melody on the album. Its single "Lights Out" reached No. 18 on the Billboard Adult Top 40 chart and No. 16 on the UK charts.

Her second album, Now What, followed on April 5, 2005, and reached No. 9 on the Billboard 200. The album included her versions of Don Henley's "Dirty Laundry" and the Ramones' "Here Today and Gone Tomorrow." She also collaborated with Billy Corgan on the song "Savior," and Pink appeared on the track "Shine."

Presley's third studio album, Storm & Grace, was released in 2012 and was produced by T Bone Burnett. She described it as a more roots-oriented and organic record than her earlier work. She also recorded posthumous duets with Elvis Presley, including "Don't Cry Daddy" in 1997 and "In the Ghetto" in 2007. In 2018, she appeared on the title track of Where No One Stands Alone, a compilation of her father's gospel recordings.

After Elvis Presley's death in 1977, Lisa Marie became a joint heir to his estate with her grandfather Vernon Presley and great-grandmother Minnie Mae Presley. Following their deaths, she became Elvis's sole heir. She formally inherited the estate on her 25th birthday and later became more closely involved with the Elvis Presley Trust and Elvis Presley Enterprises.

In 2005, Presley sold 85 percent of Elvis Presley Enterprises while retaining Graceland and the property within it. In 2012, she opened the exhibit Elvis ... Through His Daughter's Eyes at Graceland, which brought together home movies, toys, and family mementos illustrating her childhood with her father. Her father had also named a refurbished Convair 880 aircraft the Lisa Marie in 1975, and the plane later went on display at Graceland.

Presley formed the Presley Charitable Foundation in 2007. Her charitable work included support for Presley Place, a transitional housing campus in New Orleans that provided rent-free housing, child care, counseling, and other assistance to homeless families. She also participated in Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, supported music education initiatives, and became a patron of the Dream Factory charity in 2011.

Presley suffered cardiac arrest at her home in Calabasas, California, on January 12, 2023, and died later that day at a Los Angeles hospital. The cause of death was a small bowel obstruction caused by complications from bariatric surgery several years earlier. Toxicology testing found opioids in her system, but they were not considered a contributing factor in her death.

She was buried in the Graceland Meditation Garden beside her son Benjamin and near her father, Elvis. Her public memorial service took place at Graceland on January 22, 2023, with musical tributes from Billy Corgan, Axl Rose, and Alanis Morissette.

Before her death, Presley recorded audio material for a memoir. Her daughter Riley Keough completed the manuscript, narrated its audiobook, and was credited as a co-author. From Here to the Great Unknown was published posthumously in October 2024 and included Presley's memories of Elvis, motherhood, her marriages, and her struggles with addiction.
