Machine Gun Kelly has a daughter named Casie from a previous relationship with Emma Cannon. He and Megan Fox became engaged in 2022, briefly split in 2023, and later reconciled that year.

Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox announced in November 2024 that they were expecting a child together. Their daughter, Saga Blade Fox-Baker, was born in March 2025.

Machine Gun Kelly began pursuing music as a teenager and released his first mixtape, Stamp of Approval, in 2006. He developed a local following by performing at Cleveland venues such as Hi-Fi. His stage name came from his rapid-fire delivery, which he adopted when he was 15.

In 2009, he traveled from Ohio to New York to compete at the Apollo Theater's talent show. After initially being booed, he won the competition twice and became the first rapper identified in the profile to win the Apollo talent show. His mixtape 100 Words and Running followed, and a promotional tour of high schools drew crowds large enough that some school security teams turned him away.

His early recognition included Best Midwest Artist at the 2010 Underground Music Awards and Best Music Video at the 2010 Ohio Hip-Hop Awards for his “Alice in Wonderland” video. A vocal-cord polyp later kept him offstage and out of the studio for six months, during which he worked on his recovery through vocal exercises.

The 2010 mixtape Lace Up expanded Machine Gun Kelly's audience beyond Cleveland. In 2011, he secured a recording contract with Bad Boy Records and Interscope Records. His “Invincible” track was also used in a commercial for the HTC Rezound Beats By Dre phone.

His 2011 single “Wild Boy,” featuring Waka Flocka Flame, helped establish his national profile. MTV presented him with its Hottest Breakthrough MC recognition that year. He also joined Tech N9ne for the “90 Cities in 99 Days” tour and performed on the Vans Warped Tour.

Machine Gun Kelly's major-label debut, Lace Up, was released in October 2012 and reached number four on the US Billboard 200. It included “Wild Boy,” “Invincible,” “Stereo,” and “Hold On (Shut Up).” His second studio album, General Admission, arrived in 2015 and also debuted at number four in the United States, incorporating darker tones, rap rock, R&B, and storytelling.

His third album, Bloom, was released in 2017. The album's single “Bad Things,” a collaboration with Camila Cabello, reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100. His subsequent studio albums included Hotel Diablo in 2019, Tickets to My Downfall in 2020, and Mainstream Sellout in 2022.

Mainstream Sellout received a nomination for Best Rock Album at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards. The album sequence marked his prominent move from an earlier rap-centered style toward a pop-punk and rock-oriented sound.

Machine Gun Kelly made his film debut in the 2014 romantic drama Beyond the Lights. He had a recurring role on the Showtime series Roadies in 2016.

His film credits also include Felix in the 2018 Netflix film Bird Box and Tommy Lee in the 2019 Mötley Crüe biopic The Dirt. In 2022, he made his theatrical directorial debut with Mod Sun on Good Mourning.
