Madelyn Cline

Cline is the daughter of Pam Cline, a real estate agent, and Mark Cline, an engineer. Her parents supported her early modeling and acting work, including trips to New York for commercial and print-ad jobs.

Cline has spoken about struggling with an unspecified eating disorder and body image during her teenage years. She was in a relationship with her Outer Banks co-star Chase Stokes from June 2020 to October 2021, and later dated singer Jackson Guthy from summer 2022 to July 2023 and comedian Pete Davidson from September 2023 to July 2024.

Cline began modeling with the Lewis Models & Talent agency in Charleston and took part in an AMTC modeling and talent competition at age 10. She later appeared on the covers of Parent and Parent & Child magazines. During summers in New York City, she worked on television commercials and print advertisements for T-Mobile, Flow Automotive, Next clothing, and Sunny D.

Her first screen work included a childhood commercial for Chuck E. Cheese's and the short film Milites Christi, in which she played Matilda. She went on to appear as Taylor Watts in Vice Principals, Jessica in The Originals, and Tina in two episodes of Stranger Things. Her film roles included Chloe in Boy Erased and Emily in What Breaks the Ice.

Cline briefly attended Coastal Carolina University before leaving college and moving to Los Angeles to pursue acting.

In 2020, Cline began starring as Sarah Cameron in Netflix's teen adventure drama Outer Banks. Sarah is the daughter of Ward Cameron and John B's love interest in the series, which follows a group of teenagers searching for a legendary lost treasure. The role became Cline's breakthrough performance.

Cline's on-screen romance with Chase Stokes, who played John B, was also reflected in their off-screen relationship from 2020 to 2021. Cline and Stokes won Best Kiss at the 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards for their work on Outer Banks.

Cline played Whiskey in Rian Johnson's mystery film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, which was released on Netflix in 2022. She later played Danica Richards in I Know What You Did Last Summer and Heather Mulgrew in The Map That Leads to You.

Her later credits include Lorna Post in Day Drinker, alongside Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz, and Missy in The Comeback King. In addition to acting, she has modeled for campaigns associated with American Girl, Toys "R" Us, American Eagle, Stella McCartney, Versace, Elle, and Cosmo. She became a Tommy Hilfiger brand ambassador in 2023 and appeared with Mason Gooding in the brand's "Summer Essentials" campaign.
