Niall Horan

Horan is the son of Bobby Horan and Maura Gallagher, who divorced when he was five. He and his older brother, Greg Horan, initially moved between their parents' homes before later living with their father. Horan attended Coláiste Mhuire in Mullingar and has a nephew named Theo.

Horan has spoken about having mild obsessive-compulsive disorder and anxiety. He also has color vision deficiency and has difficulty distinguishing some shades of orange, red, green, yellow, blue, and purple. A recurring kneecap injury led to reconstructive surgery in 2014, after which he completed physical therapy with Chelsea in Surrey. Horan began dating Amelia Woolley in 2020, and their relationship became public in 2021.

At 16, Horan auditioned for The X Factor in Dublin, performing Ne-Yo's "So Sick." Although he did not qualify for the competition's solo category, Nicole Scherzinger suggested grouping him with Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik. The five contestants formed One Direction and finished third on the show, with Simon Cowell becoming their mentor.

One Direction's debut single, "What Makes You Beautiful," reached number one in several countries, while Up All Night made the group the first British act to debut at number one on the US Billboard 200 with a debut album. Their later albums included Take Me Home, Midnight Memories, Four, and Made in the A.M. The group's first four albums all debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, and One Direction entered an indefinite hiatus after Made in the A.M. was released in 2015.

After One Direction's hiatus, Horan released his first solo single, "This Town," in 2016. He followed it with "Slow Hands" and "Too Much to Ask," then released his debut solo album, Flicker, in October 2017. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and in Ireland and the Netherlands. Horan supported it with the Flicker Sessions and Flicker World Tour.

Horan released Heartbreak Weather in March 2020. The album reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and included the singles "Nice to Meet Ya," "Put a Little Love on Me," and "No Judgement." His collaborations during this period included Julia Michaels' "What a Time," Ashe's reworked "Moral of the Story," and Anne-Marie's "Our Song."

Horan's third solo album, The Show, was released in June 2023. It included the singles "Heaven" and "Meltdown," reached number one in Ireland and the United Kingdom, and reached number two in the United States. He performed "Heaven" at the White House during the 2023 Saint Patrick's Day celebration attended by President Joe Biden and Taoiseach Leo Varadkar.

Horan returned to headlining concerts with The Show: Live on Tour in 2024. His later releases included collaborations with Thomas Rhett on "Old Tricks" and Myles Smith on "Drive Safe." His fourth studio album, Dinner Party, was released in 2026 and reached number one on the UK Albums Chart.

Horan became a coach on the 23rd season of The Voice in 2023. Gina Miles, a member of his team, won that season, and Huntley won the following season, giving Horan consecutive victories as a coach. He later returned for the show's 28th season and coached another winning contestant, Aiden Ross.

Horan co-founded Modest Golf Management with Mark McDonnell in 2016. He has also caddied for Rory McIlroy at the Masters Tournament and worked with Justin Rose on fundraising events. His charitable work has included Irish Autism Action, Comic Relief, UNICEF's Soccer Aid, the Drive, Chip, and Putt initiative, and a 2020 livestreamed concert at the Royal Albert Hall supporting touring workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
