Savannah Guthrie

Savannah Guthrie was married to BBC News presenter Mark Orchard from 2005 to 2009. She married political and communications consultant Michael Feldman on March 15, 2014, in Tucson, Arizona, and they have two children, Vale and Charles, also known as Charley.

Guthrie gave birth to Vale in August 2014, several months after her wedding, and to Charles in December 2016. She has discussed conceiving her son through in-vitro fertilization.

Guthrie began her broadcasting career at KTVM, an NBC affiliate in Butte, Montana, but the station's local news operation closed on her tenth day. She then worked at KMIZ in Columbia, Missouri, and KVOA in Tucson before joining WRC-TV in Washington, D.C. There she covered the September 11 attack on the Pentagon and the 2001 anthrax attacks.

After earning a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Arizona, Guthrie graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center in 2002. She received the highest score on the Arizona bar exam in the year she took it and practiced white-collar criminal defense at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld.

Guthrie returned to television as a national trial correspondent for Court TV in 2004. Her legal coverage included the Martha Stewart case, the Michael Jackson trial, the trial involving the abduction and murder of Carlie Brucia, and the Senate confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito.

Guthrie joined NBC News in 2007 as a legal correspondent and became the network's White House correspondent from 2008 to 2011. She covered the 2008 presidential campaign, including Sarah Palin's vice-presidential campaign, and contributed to NBC's Emmy-winning election-night coverage. She also reported exclusive details on the death of Osama bin Laden.

In 2011, Guthrie became a co-anchor of MSNBC's The Daily Rundown, NBC News' chief legal analyst, and a host of the third hour of Today. On July 9, 2012, she began co-anchoring the main Today broadcast, replacing Ann Curry. She has interviewed political figures including Barack Obama, Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Mitt Romney, Gabby Giffords, Mark Kelly, and Barney Frank.

Guthrie and Hoda Kotb announced Matt Lauer's firing on Today in November 2017. Guthrie later co-anchored the program with Kotb, and she hosted a 2020 town hall with Donald Trump during which she challenged and fact-checked his remarks. She has also hosted NBC's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting since 2012.

Guthrie has written the children's books Princesses Wear Pants and Princesses Save the World, as well as the religious book Mostly What God Does: Reflections on Seeking and Finding His Love Everywhere. She also served as an executive producer on the animated series Princess Power.

She has appeared as herself or in related roles in programs and films including 30 Rock, 1600 Penn, Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!, Now You See Me 2, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. In 2021, she was a guest host of Jeopardy! for episodes that aired from June 14 to June 25.

Guthrie's mother, Nancy Guthrie, was last seen at her Tucson, Arizona, home on January 31, 2026. Authorities determined that a crime had occurred at the residence, and the investigation received national and international attention. Guthrie stepped away from NBC duties to assist in the search and returned to Today on April 6, 2026.

Guthrie made repeated appeals for information and spoke about the disappearance in a television interview with her former co-anchor Hoda Kotb. In July 2026, the Pima County Sheriff's Department released two redacted messages identified as ransom notes. One claimed that Nancy had died, but authorities continued to treat her fate as unresolved.
