Taylor Russell

Russell was in a relationship with English singer Harry Styles from June 2023 to May 2024.

She is a fan of Patti Smith and has a small lightning bolt tattoo on her inner wrist inspired by Smith's tattoo. Russell has described Smith as one of her heroes and has read her memoir Just Kids around 10 times.

Russell was raised in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. She has an older brother and a younger brother. Her mother is white and her father is Black and of Jamaican descent. Her father's parents were part of the Windrush generation and moved from Jamaica to England.

Russell began working at 13 and held jobs at restaurants, a jewelry store, a butcher's shop and an Amazon warehouse. Her family relocated 16 times in response to her father's professional pursuits. She initially wanted to become a ballet dancer and later considered painting before taking her first acting class at 18.

After the class sparked her interest in acting, Russell used her savings to travel from Vancouver to Los Angeles for auditions. She worked between trips and repeated the routine for four years before landing her first major television role.

Russell made her professional acting debut in 2012 with a guest appearance on Emily Owens, M.D. She subsequently appeared in television films including The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story and Pants on Fire, as well as the series Strange Empire, Falling Skies and Dead of Summer.

Her breakthrough came with the role of Judy Robinson in Netflix's science fiction series Lost in Space, which ran from 2018 to 2021 for three seasons. Her performance earned a Saturn Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Streaming Presentation.

In 2019, Russell starred as Zoey Davis in the horror film Escape Room and reprised the role in Escape Room: Tournament of Champions in 2021. She also played Emily Williams in Trey Edward Shults's drama Waves, earning the Gotham Independent Film Award for Breakthrough Performer and the Virtuoso Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

Russell followed Waves with roles in Words on Bathroom Walls, Dr. Bird's Advice for Sad Poets and the Escape Room sequel. In 2022, she starred as Maren Yearly opposite Timothée Chalamet in Luca Guadagnino's romance horror film Bones and All.

Bones and All premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where Russell won the Marcello Mastroianni Award. She later appeared as Bella in Mother, Couch, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, and joined the cast of Na Hong-jin's thriller Hope alongside HoYeon Jung, Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander.

Russell co-directed, wrote and produced the 2020 short documentary The Heart Still Hums with Savanah Leaf. The film follows five women dealing with drug addiction, homelessness and neglect as they fight for their children. It won the Best Documentary Short award at Palm Springs International ShortFest and received recognition at several other film festivals.

Leaf later adapted the documentary into the feature film Earth Mama, which she wrote and directed. Russell also directed part of the music video for Alexa Demie's song "Leopard Limo (Archive LL11)", which features Russell's voice.

Russell made her stage debut as Connie in Lucy Prebble's play The Effect at London's Royal National Theatre in 2023. The production transferred to The Shed in New York in 2024, and Russell received nominations at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards and the WhatsOnStage Awards.

She opened Loewe's Spring/Summer 2023 show in 2022 and became a Loewe global ambassador later that year. She has also appeared in campaigns for Chanel, BYRDIE and Prada, and made her first Vogue Italia cover in the March 2024 issue. Russell made her Met Gala debut in 2024.
