Alexis McAdams is an American television journalist and national correspondent for Fox News. She reported live from the scene of the 2024 assassination attempt on Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, and won an Emmy Award for regional news broadcasting in Indiana. Before moving to national television, she spent years covering crime and breaking stories across the Midwest for ABC affiliate WLS-TV.

Early life and education

Alexis McAdams grew up in Palatine, Illinois. Her parents are Brian W. McAdams and Mary Bailey McAdams, and she has a brother named Brandon. She attended William Fremd High School in Palatine before studying at Illinois State University.

She majored in broadcast journalism and graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science degree. While still a student, she earned the Student Silver Dome Award for Best Newscast from the Illinois News Broadcasters Association. She also interned at Chicago television stations, including Fox Chicago News and WGN-TV, where she produced field pieces for the weekly segment Chicago's Very Own.

Local reporting in Illinois and Indiana

McAdams began her on-air career in 2014 at WTVO and WQRF-TV in Rockford, Illinois. She worked as a multimedia journalist and anchored weekend broadcasts.

In April 2015, she moved to Indianapolis to join Fox affiliate WXIN and CBS affiliate WTTV. She worked as a general assignment reporter for three years. While at the station, she served as the lead reporter on the Delphi murder investigation. Her work at WXIN earned her an Emmy Award in 2016 for Best Weekend Newscast.

She returned to Chicago in 2018 to join ABC-owned WLS-TV. She worked the city crime beat for three years. Her assignments included local shootings, court trials, Midwest natural disasters, and the 2020 protests following the death of George Floyd.

Fox News Channel

McAdams joined Fox News Channel in October 2021 as a correspondent based in New York City. She later became a national correspondent, appearing across daytime programming and evening broadcasts like Special Report and The Story.

Her national assignments have focused on breaking news and politics. During the 2024 presidential campaign, she reported live from the New Hampshire primary and voter rallies across the country. When gunfire broke out at a Donald Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, McAdams reported live from the scene. Her network coverage has also spanned demonstrations at Columbia University, immigration enforcement operations, and congressional races.
