Ariana Grande

Grande was married to real-estate agent Dalton Gomez from May 2021 until their divorce was finalized in March 2024. She later dated actor Ethan Slater, whom she met while working on Wicked.

Grande's parents are Joan Grande and Edward Butera, and she has an older half-brother, Frankie Grande. Both of her parents are of Italian descent.

Grande began performing at a young age. At eight, she played Annie in a local children's theater production, and in 2008, at 15, she made her Broadway debut as Charlotte in the musical 13. She continued her education while working in New York and graduated from high school in 2012.

Her breakthrough came with the Nickelodeon series Victorious, which premiered in 2010. Grande played Cat Valentine, a bubbly performing-arts student whose red hair became closely associated with the character. She reprised the role in the spin-off Sam & Cat, starring alongside Jennette McCurdy, and later appeared in Scream Queens, Hairspray Live!, Scream Queens, and Don't Look Up.

While working on Victorious, Grande uploaded cover songs to YouTube, attracting the attention of Republic Records chief executive Monte Lipman. The label signed her in 2011, and she released her debut studio album, Yours Truly, in 2013. The pop and R&B album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, while its lead single, "The Way," featured rapper Mac Miller and reached the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100.

Grande followed with My Everything in 2014 and Dangerous Woman in 2016. My Everything became her second consecutive number-one album in the United States and included "Problem" with Iggy Azalea, "Break Free" with Zedd, and "Love Me Harder" with The Weeknd. "Side to Side," featuring Nicki Minaj, became one of the major singles from Dangerous Woman.

Grande's fourth album, Sweetener, was released in 2018 and earned her first Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album. Its songs included "No Tears Left to Cry," "Breathin'," and "God Is a Woman." The following year, Thank U, Next debuted at number one and produced Grande's first U.S. number-one singles, including its title track and "7 Rings."

In February 2019, "7 Rings," "Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored," and "Thank U, Next" occupied the top three positions on the Billboard Hot 100 simultaneously. Grande also became the youngest performer to headline the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, and the fourth woman to receive that distinction.

A bombing at Grande's May 2017 concert in Manchester killed 22 people. She suspended her tour and returned to the city in June to organize the One Love Manchester benefit concert, which featured Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams, Liam Gallagher, and Coldplay's Chris Martin. Manchester later named Grande its first honorary citizen.

Grande released Positions in 2020 and Eternal Sunshine in 2024. She also launched the cosmetics brand R.E.M. Beauty in 2021 and served as a coach on the twenty-first season of The Voice. Eternal Sunshine became her sixth number-one album in the United States, with "Yes, And?" and "We Can't Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)" both reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

Grande played Glinda opposite Cynthia Erivo's Elphaba in the 2024 film adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked. Grande had been a fan of the stage musical since childhood and went through several auditions before winning the role.

Her performance earned nominations for the Academy Award, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild Award, and BAFTA Film Award for supporting actress. She reprised Glinda in Wicked: For Good, released in 2025.
